I'm actually at the point now where I've been working here long enough (okay, well, in the next three weeks) that I'll have a vacation. Paid like. It's been a long time since I've worked anywhere I'd get an actual paid vacation. I think since I was in the Army, which was eight years ago.

However, we are ridiculously understaffed, and until we get at least two more people trained up and good to go, I won't be able to go anywhere. I'm the trainer and I need to be around to mentor new people. If we ever fucking get them. So I was initially looking at putting in my TOR (Time Off Request) and going to Mexico in May to see my kids, but I may need to push that back to July since two people are going on vacation in June. It's going to depend what we have. At least if I wait until July I'll be able to save up a little more to do some stuff with the kids instead of going broke like I usually do.

Hard to believe I've worked here for nearly a year. I've had the new truck for nearly a year, too. Where the fuck does time go?

Yeah she's a bit of a dick... to put it lightly. The worst of it is that my position requires 2 people on at once. My absence required my co-workers on those days to work not only their own shift but mine as well. Her refusal to let me move my vacation inconvenienced the entire operation... not just me.

One of the managers said to me just moments ago: "Thank god you're back. The past week was rough with only one person in ops." to which I said: "Well that's what happens when the system is flawed. Had my vacation been moved as I requested, that wouldn't have happened and you would have had plenty of time to find coverage for my shifts in the coming weeks."

I should also note that our boss is the sort that refuses to grant overtime if at all avoidable. She deliberately didn't open my shifts up to my other co-workers as overtime until the day before my vacation started. On such short notice, nobody was able to take them and all 4 days ended up being 1 man shows.

What she won't do to save the company a few measly dollars. It's dumbfounding.

My birthday is coming up and my folks keep asking me what I want and I honestly don't know. I'm pretty content despite all the complaining I do on here. I just don't have much in the way of material needs or even things I want. It's just a really weird sensation, sitting down and trying to come up with things I want when really I'm quite content. The only thing that really springs to mind is music, because everyone can always use more music in their life.
