Nordstrom is my suggestion as well. Their employees are actually enthusiastic to help you... it's refreshing.

I've had mixed results there. Generally positive attitudes and good knowledge, but mixed end results. *shrug*

Your problem is that you're buying formal clothing, not casual. Slacks, shirts and sport coats are casual and are made more durable and of heavier materials.

Dockers, button up shirt, blazer. Your blazer is going to be off when you're at your desk anyway, roll up shirt sleeves. Honestly, even jeans (good jeans that haven't faded), button up shirt and a blazer look good. Dockers come on sale pretty frequently now, button up shirts can be found very inexpensively. Even Old Navy has some good looking ones.

Well, if you didn't have a peg leg, they would have no trouble fitting you.

              lol.

Also, this is the most high brow discussion we've had here in a while.

Go for the Private School look and you'll be fine. It's really similar to what Mhurron is describing. Khakis, White collared shirt and a blue blazer. It's a style that fits formal and casual events alike. It's also comfortable and easy to wear.

Even if you don't or can't wear khakis at work for whatever reason, suit separates or nice dress slacks can actually be comfortable. I tend to go with dress pants in a stretch wool, so when I have to bend or move at work, I don't feel like a wrinkled, constrained mess at the end of the day.

I'm probably using the term "formal" inappropriately. What I wear to work is indeed more durable than a proper suit, but it's still less durable than what I wear loafing around the house on weekends. For some of the stuff I end up doing, it would normally be more appropriate to wear my weekend attire, but I don't usually get the luxury of knowing that beforehand.

I love my faded jeans, and my comfortable T's. My jeans that are faded fit me the best, and are the most comfortable. Why buy jeans that aren't comfortable?

As for the button up shirts.... No thanks. I hate those things. Yes, I do dress nicely once in a while, but more like a nice "dressy" shirt, and Kahkis. But., I hate being restricted to what people consider "Normal.". If what I wanted to wear in public wasn't frowned upon by most of the community, even though they secretly want to do it them selves, but follow everyone else, I really would.

You look like you don't care. You are going to act like you don't care and people are going to assume you don't care.

It has already been said, but yes, the way you dress does affect the way you act, and obviously the way others treat you.

Polo shirts always strike me as a middle ground for people who can't tell if they are going to be overdressed or under dressed for an occasion. That's just my personal take though, feel free to correct me.

I'm not really a fan of them.

See: The Benjamin Franklin Effect Tl;dr version - you unconsciously observe your own actions and then form your opinions based on that, rather than the other way around.

I would have to say they can look good with the right stuff. They're not going to be as easily worn with jeans if you're going for a sort of dressed up look, but with khakis and a sport coat they can work. They probably won't look quite as sharp as a button up shirt though.

Probably good in the summer. Short sleeve button up shirts are often kind of silly looking.

Personally, I hate polos with their brand graphic on them.

Also, btw, they will work with a nice hat.
