This is the issue I have. I have a plethora of nice slacks and polo shirts for work. All the shirts have a logo on them and I generally don't like wearing them out if I need to dress for an occasion. So, I end up wearing something that I don't feel comfortable in even if it looks nice.

I didn't even see this before.

By and large, I don't see how anyone can see that site as anything other than a giant joke. The hat stuff was informative, but that was raw facts presented as such. The opinion bits, I don't see how you can take it seriously.

Of course, stuff like this -

      Always makes me laugh.

Hell the sites name itself, The Art of Manliness, it's just begging to be said in this loud, booming voice.

Way to transition into nothing. Not "not transition into something," mind you, a successful transition into nothingness. Oblivion. I hope you're proud of yourself.

Oh good... you did change it. The last one you had was ugly.

If anyone is having trouble finding a well fitting suit, they may want to consider where they are shopping for one. A good tailor or even just a good suit salesperson will be able to find an excellent suit that fits you to a T.

Also, all of this typing makes my hands hurt. :/

                      This

A good tailor is hard to find. It's a dying art. Hell... you're lucky if you can find a seamstess to hem your pants without ending up in a pair of floods because she does't know her way around a sewing machine.

Quality service in general is just hard to find now.

Practical for what? I sit around on my ass all day and a pair of slacks, button up shirt and a sport coat are just as practical as anything else. Honestly a tie is not needed if it's not a formal occasion. If you don't like the look of a collared shirt, you can try to find a mandarin collar shirt, which look awesome.

It's not like you have to buy suits. Good slacks, and sport coats or blazers that go with them are all you need.

Also if you are buying a real suit and the store can not handle alterations themselves, you should be shopping elsewhere. A decent place will do the measuring and whatnot for the alterations, deal with it themselves (there or sending it off) and simply let you know when you can pick it up. Getting the suit altered at time of purchase is not something you should have to go elsewhere for.

What Mhurron said is absolutely true. If you cannot get the alterations done on site, then you are in the wrong place. Also, a well fitted suit is incredibly comfortable, and practical for many situations.

For when the boss randomly decides we need to rearrange all the furniture in the office and reassemble the cubicles in a new formation or any of the countless oddball tasks I get stuck with working for a tiny business that don't involve sitting at my desk. You try going spelunking in a storage room for the guy who refuses to throw anything away(seriously, we had at least three broken coffee machines in there and countless piles of cubicle frames last time along with god only knows what else) and let me know how formal clothing holds up.

Certainly it's important to wear appropriate clothing for the task at hand, but when that task changes without warning it'd be nice to not have to worry about damaging the clothing I came to work in. Most of the stuff I wear to the office looks nice but isn't particularly durable.

I just need to find a better place to shop then. I've had alterations done on site, multiple times even, but it just never feels quite right. I probably need to find one of those hole-in-the-wall shops run by one guy who runs everything and knows what he's doing because he's been doing it for decades.

That or try somewhere expensive, but with employees that know what they are doing like Nordstrom/Sak's. That's where I go.
