Stop being so dramatic. I told you what you needed to hear, not what you wanted to hear, and you didn't like it. I could have just ignored it, or been extra dickish and made a joke or said something shitty. Instead I actually told you what you needed to hear.

You're an adult. Stop throwing a pity party for yourself. Pull yourself up by the bootstraps or whatever the hell seems applicable and get on with life instead of dwelling on the shit that goes wrong.

I'm going to step in for just a moment and just mention that while this forum section is Off-Topic, that doesn't mean you guys have free rein to snidely insult each other either. That's not directed at anyone in particular, but the last couple of pages of this thread are floating in a sea of negativity, and that's just not necessary.

Moral of the story: Shit happens. Life goes on. Don't laugh at other people when it does, because you could be next.

I told you what you needed to hear, not what you wanted to hear, and you didn't like it.

You may not have meant it, but if you were seriously dishing out some personal advice, it was laced with some conflicting phrases just bound to be taken the wrong way.

"Maybe you should leave"

This is basically telling someone to burn a bridge they may not wish to. Its not your place to say what's right in this case. Leaving the situation might be more stressful. Aks knows the real answer to the problem, its just the matter of finding the will to do it. You said that, maybe it should have been limited to that.

"...you're better off being single right now..."

The only saving grace of the statement being "right now." Still, addressing a relationship status in this way might have been best left untouched.

"Look into blogging."

This says "Take it somewhere else, I don't care to hear it," which is confusing in the midst of the advice you were giving, which includes "talk to someone.". It seemed strange and unneeded and might upset someone stressing out. I can back that up with the fact you said it made you uncomfortable. But she didn't make you read her posts, so you didn't have to feel uncomfortable.

Just my observations here. Probably would have been better to not even touch the issue, you clearly didn't help yourself by claiming it was what she needed to hear. Save that kind of talk for the harsh realities of FFXI, not someone's personal life.

OMG, I agree with all of this. Someone needs to think about going somewhere else, another venue say where they can vent their experiences about being/not being single and whatever the hell else they want to bitch/moan about. A blog set up just for that would probably be the best venue for that.
