This probably isn't the best venue for this. In fact, not sure I've ever really opened up about my personal life non-jokingly on here before. However, I'm just at a loss and the general anonymity of the board helps.

I've been friends with benefits with this guy "Mike" for about three years now. Neither of us have really dated anyone in the time we've been at it (minus a month long relationship he had soon after we met and we stopped seeing each other during.) Mike knows I really do care about him and lately he's been opening up to me a lot more, greatly relaxed around me, etc. However, I know it's nothing more than being better friends, despite the way I feel.

I've tried going on dates and getting close to other guys during this three year "arrangement." But I just always back away from these potential relationships because I don't want to stop seeing Mike. I know something needs to be done about this. Otherwise, I'll be locked into this one way relationship for who knows how long.

Whenever I'm on a date or what-have-you with someone, I just keep thinking about Mike. I've asked him on dates the first year we were doing our thing, but he declined. So... yeah.

Been there. Easier said than done, but if you know he's not gonna reciprocate then the best thing to do is stop seeing him. You can probably still be friends after some time, but the more you continue to fuck around with him, the deeper you're gonna get (and no that was not an intentional pun you assholes).

I really don't have any advice for how to deal other than that, it's a hard situation. :/ But ... hugs?

For your own well being I'd sever ties with the guy, at least for a good three to four months. It may be in that time he decides he actually does want something more with you but that shouldn't be the motivation or even an expectation. I'm sure most of us have been in similar situations over the years and you certainly have my sympathy because all the advice in the world doesn't make it any easier.

If it helps to motivate yourself, imagine how you'll feel if you're still around and he finds himself a significant other.

The safest thing is probably to learn to hate him in order to protect yourself. You're going to be hurting for a long while no matter how this shakes out. Sorry I don't have any good advice for you, but you're in a hole that I've no idea how to escape.

It's rare that I want to escape holes (ba-dum-tshh.) I honestly would be a little relieved if he found himself someone. I think I'm going to approach him about it next time I see him this week. What do I have to lose right? Worst comes to worst and I double up on the Zoloft for a week or two if he wants to stop meeting up. We shall see.

+1 for the 'let go' train, although I mean, have an honest talk before you up and leave. I've been on both sides of that feeling, and as much as it hurts to leave someone or be abandoned, trying to pretend there was never anything there doesn't work at all. That's not just gonna hurt you, it's gonna hurt him too. It sucks and it's not fair and it's going to hurt, but it's mourning, not regret.


There is the less nuclear option of trying to get an alternative relationship who would be okay with letting you continue to see him, or add other fwbs, but ultimately unless you honestly think you'll fall hard enough for someone else to lose interest in him, it's not going to be the medicine you need.

So the media of the entire free world is standing up for freedom of speech and of the press, and all but one of the newspapers here has their front page talking about some gossip over the HSR corporation's investment plan not working out.

The one newspaper that is running Charlie on the cover? They essentially act like, since Taiwan is part of China, they are simply a local paper, so their news is %95 general China/International, with a single page or two for local news.

I came to the conclusion a while back that the majority of world and local news is a mixture of equal parts misery and scare-mongering. It seems like the only way forward if I don't want to be permanently depressed or angry is to actively avoid it.

If something significant happens it'll find it's way to me by word of mouth or social media.

Well the national news has to have death, conflict and celebrity woops's jsut to tap into our humanity of wanting to know about this shit. If it was all just local news then it will be about the level of ou local nespapers about, gnomes being stolen, winners of cheese throwing competitions, school prize winners and complaints about poor parking.

I'm still somewhat in disbelief that "the latest in the Fire Emblem series" isn't a SMTxFE update. Otherworldly eldritch monstrosities? Heavily Eastern design? Ice Magic? "World-altering choices"? That basically has SMT's name on it all but literally.

In fact, I'm calling it right now. "The latest in the Fire Emblem series" will actually be titled "Fire Emblem X Shin Megami Tensei," a 3DS Tactics game, as opposed to "Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem," which will apparently be a Wii U RPG.
