Anyone know of any good speakers (2.1, etc.) for a PC that connect through one 3.5mm jack?

I'll be honest, they're good enough that I haven't really missed the subwoofer. On the other hand, I'm no audiophile so I might not be the best person to give advice on this.

Rutgers Newark is a nice campus. You sometimes forget you only have to walk two blocks to be surrounded by homeless people.

Ahh first time being on campus during a fucking monsoon (yes, that's an exaggeration, though rainstorms here are never mild). My pants are soaked below the knee and my backpack also took a hell of a lot of moisture.

May have to look into a waterproof backpack. At least my computer didn't seem to mind the rain. That part of my bag was under the umbrella though, so I guess that's why.

I tried those a couple years back and got a crazy loud buzzing sound coming out of them whenever they were turned out. Had to take them back. I don't know if I got a defective unit or what, but my experience with them was less than positive.

They have been fine for me. One thing I like about is that you can plug just about anything into the subwoofer. Plugging my Vita or 3DS into it is always mildy amusing.

I can even plug my custom V-MODAs into them if I really want to deafen myself for the next few weeks.

So for one of my classes this semester I will have to develop lesson plans and actually teach students three lessons and if that isn't enough anxiety already (because holy crap I'm actually terrified even though this is what I'm there for, to learn how to do this), the classroom I'm assigned with is 6th graders, and while my degree will certify me to teach English to students from grades 6-12, part of the reason I decided against Elementary Education as a major was because I feel a lot more uncomfortable with younger kids (even though, yes, I have them).

I just got the e-mail from the professor with my classroom assignment a few minutes ago and basically I'm just telling myself


But it's not working because I'm totally freaking out.

You'll be standing in front of a classroom where a majority of the students will be paying attention. The rest will either be day-dreaming or goofing off. If somebody is making it difficult for somebody else to pay attention, you split them up. If somebody is just off in their own world, you can leave them alone. The sooner they hit the day-dreamer's rock bottom, the better.

I think the point of this is to give you a test class to make all your mistakes with. You'll see these kids for three days, then probably never again, and you won't have to worry about hearing from their parents. You're in control. If something isn't working for you, change it. Immediately, if you like. Or not. Who cares? They won't remember you in a week, tops.

Basically it's the same as going all digital for games, books and music. It's great if you aren't bothered about having the physical thing to hold. For me things like that are a godsend because in the UK, if you want to live anywhere that has actual storage space, you might as well go hold up a bank. I hear prison cells are getting pretty roomy now.

Not really. As I have told you before multiple times, as long as you have the files, you will always be able to play the game/watch the movie/listen to the song.

I have a huge external HDD full of Steam games I will be able to continue to play long after Steam finally goes down because the programme works fine offline and doesn't care where you got the files from, as long as you have he game purchased. It's the same with any other digital game. I'm never slowed down by having to reinstall FFXIV or FFXI, or anything like Tera or Rift on a new computer because I just transfer the files over, and bam it works.

Same thing with Origin, Gamersgate and GMG files too. GOG stuff as well (though that is DRM free anyway, and are hardly niche anymore)

Same with iTunes too. I have a huge HDD full of music and videos from there than can be used on any device as long as I have the files, and they will keep working if iTunes ever vanishes.

Plus with digital files, I can recover any lost information easily. With physical media, if my disc gets damaged or broken, or I lose the game cart (way too each with 3DS and Vita games), then I'm fucked. I have to buy an entirely new copy of that game, praying that the game is still in print. If it isn't and I have to buy a used copy, then I'm at the mercy of what the seller wants to charge, and if that new copy actually works. With digtal I can just bring up the store page and download the game again, or just break into my backup files.

I liked digital for a while, but I realized I couldn't recommend things and loan them to friends, because you can't (currently) loan digital objects. If it's a physical copy, then you can recommend it and hand it right to them, which will get it read faster than a recommendation alone.
