Playing Hearthstone in Chinese lately. I have to say, you haven't heard Leeroy Jenkins until you've heard him in Mandarin.

Also, some of the minions were inexplicably dubbed in Taiwanese, presumably to make them sound more badass. Weird disparity though; the thugs, the goblin, and... the succubus?

I mean, the girls here, sure, but really?

Been reading Journey to the West and now I see where Dragonball gets all of its more questionable ideas. Journey is rather nonchalant about life and death, with characters dying and coming back to life all the time. And Sun Wukong, the character whom Son Goku is based off, is grotesquely overpowered compared to virtually every other character around him.

n.b., Wukong and Goku are the same, one is the Chinese reading, the other the Japanese reading. Same characters, pretty much the same character. Also, I'm not at all familiar with classical chinese or chinese tales myself, but I had a teacher (who very much is) mention once that the "West" represents the afterlife; much in the same way that the heavens or underground would in western mythology. It's not too surprising that they have a flippant opinion of death.

Yeah, I know. When I said Son Goku though, I was referring to the Dragonball character, who is very different though no less absurdly powerful. As for the "West", apparently that is India within the story. A fantastical India with 40-some rainbows in the sky, and dragons and phoenixes, and temples with ornate lotus platforms.

See, I have issues with haiku because I have a dialect where words like growl, houl, girl, etc. may or may not be two syllables.
