My boyfriend forgot his phone at home today so I was worried all day since he hadn't responded to my texts (I only texted him twice, I'm not crazy and I know he's busy so I don't harass him), and finally as I'm driving home from work I get a text from him.

Okay I know he had his Macbook with him because he never goes without it so he could have Facebooked me just so I didn't freak out. Jesus.

I think I'm gonna order a pizza tonight. Cooking just doesn't sound like a great plan.

      baby steps

I used to think I was an introvert. I've come to the conclusion that I'm actually somewhere between introvert and extrovert, but was just too shy to really be outgoing. I think it was half getting in better shape and improving my self confidence and half getting older and realizing I really don't give a shit what 99% of people think about me that got me to be more outgoing.
I might suggest inviting the guys you play with to a dive bar or something afterwards for a drink or two. Not necessarily tonight, but after you get to know some of them and determine if they're actually people you'd like to hang out with socially.
(This is, of course, assuming you're not completely introverted and have an interest in getting out more)

Aks: Did you try fb messaging him? He may not have realized he didn't have his phone on him or been busy and not given thought that you might be trying to text him.

Yeah, I did, figured he'd respond but meh, guess he was busy, and he doesn't wanna do anything tonight except finish his homework so yeah pizza and WoW is definitely the winning plan for tonight.

I love that he's not this big "let's go out and always be doing stuff" kind of person because I like to stay home and just chill sometimes but he takes it to the extreme sometimes. Oh well. I should get used to him not being around, he's gonna be in Morocco all summer.

To be fair, its just the one girl. And on the flipside Captain Sweatpants also frequents that particular establishment, so it evens out.

Let's not jump the gun here. I'm still a recluse by nature. Baby steps indeed.

I can't say if I really want to be social with any of these people at all, but just having some new people to laugh with for an evening was nice. Not the most social setting though, so who knows. Even with the common ground of MtG I feel a little out of sorts. It's all these whippersnappers with their new fangled cards that are bullshit, and I'm the only guy who's bothered to keep up with all the old sets and some of the modern stuff without being That Asshole Who Plays Legacy. I just want to talk shop about kitchen table legacy like my goddamn coin flip deck but these guys are all like "oh man Scars of Mirrodin, I remember that set" and I'm sitting here going "Fuck, I remember when the original MIrrodin set came out and how Modular + Loxodon Warhammer was utter bullshit".

Overall a good experience and I'll probably go back, but I get the feeling this isn't the miraculous epiphany I need.

Also: that one girl is always in a relationship already/not-interested/not a good match/tired of getting hit on/etc.

All women are always tired of getting hit on, to be quite honest. Some men have absolutely no clue how annoying they are, especially when they won't take no for an answer.

Also, I have no fucking clue on any of that Magic stuff, nor DnD or any other tabletop games, but I'd like to learn. I just wouldn't know where to begin and I am really not cool with walking into awkward situations where I don't know anybody to try and be social, especially when I don't know what I'm doing, it's like double-anxiety-whammy. So I wouldn't really be able to be taught by anyone except perhaps the internet, and that's probably not the best way to do it. But yeah, me and social situations don't work out too well.

So instead I stayed home tonight and leveled my Paladin to 85. She's so fucking pretty.

If you're genuinely interested in learning Magic we could definitely teach you, but given your financial situation I'd advise you to running screaming in the other direction instead.

Fuck if I know how to get into tabletop RPGs. That seems to just be a case of knowing someone who's starting a campaign and getting invited. I was curious about that stuff ever since I got my hands on Baldur's Gate. Spent a whole summer reading all my library's D&D manuals cover to cover, but I never had a clue how to get involved. I finally got to play some tabletop RPGs once I got to college and one of my roommates decided to run some World of Darkness campaigns.

Also, MTG protips: Get an old card box from someone who doesn't give half a damn anymore. Yes the cards will mostly suck, but it will still save you so much money.

made me realize, although I know how they work, I think I've never used a rotary phone in my life. Payphone, I think once when I was vacationing in Japan.

I'm still kinda amazed that the kids don't recognize a busy signal or even a dial tone though.

Someone picked up Cockatrice and runs it again AFAIK so there's that.

As for table top RPGs, Pathfinder seems to be the #1.
