I've wondered a couple times if I should stop hijacking this thread and just make a "TM's sentimental bullshit" thread.

Unrelated to lala love, something happened today that has my heart in pieces. I don't know if I want to talk about it. It might be stupid and I might be overreacting. But I don't remember the last time I was as happy as yesterday or as sad as today. All over people I've never met.

What a weekend. ._.

TM, I say this with all honesty but I know that you've had some of the same issues as me, at least as far as depression goes, and I know that when you ride the highs even for a short time, even the smallest things can (and do) make you feel extra low when they hit. I used to have those moments where something innocuous would put me in this huge funk for no apparent reason. And then a few hours (or days, at times) later, everything would be fine.

Actually that still happens sometimes, but with less and less frequency. I know how you feel though because I would get upset over the seemingly smallest things and I'd tell myself it was irrational to feel that way and that I was being stupid but I would still be sad and couldn't just snap out of it, couldn't just let it go.

Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that it's not all that unusual to have weird mood changes in short periods of time. I hope that you get through it, whatever it is.

Product of overthinking?

Just asking because that's definitely a problem I grapple with. I attach strong meanings to things others find insignificant. Little things bother me because I often try to figure out the bigger picture behind it. A "Why did she not talk to me much today?" kind of thing. And whenever something good happens to me, I also tend to attach strong feelings to it. I know we ought to hold onto the good things that happen to us and ignore the bad. But sometimes I feel like I'm clinging to the good things like they're more important than they actually are.

Depression sucks, and I'll second what Aky said - when you have a bit of a high, which is actually a common thing with depression it really, REALLY sucks when you come down from it.

Though in my case it's not clinical, just emotional scarring from shit that happened years ago.

I feel like that's exactly the case. I had a lot farther to fall, so I landed a lot harder. When you're already at rock bottom nothing hurts, but I was riding high.

As to the situation I referred to earlier, it was actually even worse than I was imagining. Remember the girl I was swooning over in the fall, who I posted a lot of pictures of? She is still a precious friend of mine and like a big sister to me, and I very nearly lost her from my life forever. She left in the night last night, leaving her goodbyes via mog mail. Thanks for the good times to the other company members, and a bittersweet congratulation to me on becoming the master of the company. Well, tonight well after I should have been in bed she snuck on one last time to dump all of her remaining savings into the company chest, and I caught her. It took four hours but finally I was able to talk her into staying in a way that would work for her, so ... massive sigh of relief. I was deathly afraid that my new love was going to cost me the old, but I think everything's going to be okay now.

My friend's fears: Hardest boss fight in the game by far. Most rewarding duty to complete.

Let me prefase this by saying I know this is easier said than done, but i think after this occurence you need to find a way to start building and developing realistic in-game expectations. The fact that one of your best in game friends was going to leave the game utterly broke you apart (which is understandable.) But this is going to happen over and over again, with friend after friend after friend. It's almost like in your mind they were a family member and you want and expect them to stick around forever. If you can, try and use this as an emtional learning experience and come to try and come to terms with the fact that people will come and people will go, but this doesn't have any long term affect on you, because "c'est la vie." When one person leaves, another enters, memories are never lost, you just continue to create happy new ones. Cherish the good memories you have created, and don't let the people that leave the game to pursue other games, hobbies, family duties, or real life stuff inhibit your ability to smile and create more of those cherishable memories with other people.

tldr: smile, it's a beautiful day, many people enjoy your company currently and many people that don't even know you yet will enjoy your company some time in the future.

Other than my family, these are the only relationships I have, Mez. I can't just say c'est la vie at something like this. My linkshell is full of people I've been building relationships with for nearly a decade, and I can't make you understand what a powerful figure in my life this person has been since we met.

And, it wasn't a matter of getting bored and moving on as happens all the time, either. I can deal with that. I was doing something that hurt her and she wouldn't tell me. It was making her physically ill and she couldn't stand to have any contact with me whatsoever, in game or out. She was going to shut me out forcibly forever because she thought it would be better if I didn't care about her and she faded away. Friends don't let friends do that kind of thing.

I'm sorry. The point you make is valid for most circumstances and I shouldn't argue, but I talked a friend out of a very dark place last night and I'm very proud of it. Maybe I didn't describe it with the weight it deserved.

Yeah this is a little different than your post previously, your other post made it sound like, to me at least, that she was moving on from the game amicably. Obviously if you are hurting someone, it is definitely better to try and work that out first and foremost. If you can rebuild or revert your relationship back to where both parties are happy and joyful with one another, that's the best case scenario and one everyone would prefer. Great job, and you should be proud!

That being said, I still stand by my viewpoint posted above. A time will come when people chose to move on and you won't be able to change it. Just something to come to terms with, realize, and prepare yourself for.
