Well, it's another Christmas guys, and for the first time really since I've moved here, the Christmas spirit caught me. Sort of. Let's just say that for the first time, I've felt compelled to give a Christmas gift to someone, and ironically, that someone happens to be Jewish. Though I do know that he will not be one of those ultra-offended people that would freak at the idea of someone giving him a Christmas present, so I feel good about it. (Plus he already got me something for Christmas).

We're headed off to Universal Studios Orlando for the day. It's gonna be great!

So Merry Christmas you guys. I know I complain a lot here (but I do try to keep it to the complaining thread, as it's sometimes my only outlet so I don't appear negative in real life) but I truly do enjoy coming here day after day and talking about random shit with you all. </sappy> lol

So general question:

Considering playing FFXIV even though I will be starting school again in three weeks and I really shouldn't spend the money on the game and the sub fee (since I won't discontinue WoW because dammit I like WoW) and how stupid would I be to not only pick up a second MMO but only play it casually anyway?

Can it be played casually?
Can it be played solo?
Is it anything like FFXI in terms of fun? Community? Style?

Yes.
Yes, but don't whine about queue times as any class if you play purely solo. Dungeons are now the fastest and most efficient way to level. With Rested XP, the Armoury Bonus and food you are talking anything from 1.75 levels in the 20's to 0.6 levels in the 40's per run.
No. FFXIV is actually fun and has a community.

As for WoW, Blizzcon got me genuinely excited for Warlords. I might actually give it a go.

And GW2 I wouldn't bother with. The novelty of it wore off fast, and once you hit the level cap there really isn't anything to do compared to FFXIV or WoW. WvWvW was just a failed attempt at copying RvR from Warhammer Online which resulted in an even bigger zergfest, and endgame can be described as "So what did you invite me to the party to do again? Oh we're all dying because everyone is specced damage. Fuck it, I'm going to go do some PvP for a big while I wait for the Dungeon Finder Dailies to reset on FFXIV".

Basically it's Pre-Bioware Warhammer Online, but with none of the class balance and even more zerging.

It was actually awesome. The lines for most rides weren't longer than 30 minutes (and we skipped the ones that were really long). It was more crowded than I expected but still worthwhile and better than sitting around playing WoW in front of the TV like I'd usually do. Since we have annual passes, we can go for basically the price of gas and one or two meals, as many times we want in a year. We may have actually started a new Christmas tradition.
