Basically things have just been heading downhill for months. She's normally fine, but when she gets angry and fighty she gets this terrible childishness. She's gotten violent on more than one occasion, regularly threatens to break up to try to get her way, and literally uses rubber and glue tactics whenever she's upset ("Honey, just try to calm down some, things aren't that bad" "NO, HOW ABOUT YOU TRY TO CALM DOWN? THINGS ARE BAD.").

Coming back from Osaka, she went into this whole "all of these problems are your fault and we should break up" mode; went home to think, and decided there's no way I can keep hoping she's ever going to change. She asked me "When do you want to meet so I can give you [the ring] back?", like she's done a dozen times before, and I just replied "Wednesday work for you?"

Sorry to hear that Feba. At least you've got the good sense to get out of a bad situation, that's more than many people manage to do.

It mostly comes from her family; her parents have the same sort of relationship. Her mom tells her dad nothing out of fear of upsetting him, which inevitably upsets him. He deals with his anger by locking himself up in their room and throwing stuff around. I've tried to help her learn how to deal with her anger, which is something I had to learn growing up, but she just won't accept responsibility. She's got that sort of "I'm me, and everything else is the enemy; I'm good, therefore everything else is bad." sort of ideology that's just so hard to get her to accept even the smallest amount of responsibility, because that's the same as saying she's no better than the people she's fighting with.

still, there has to be a point where I give up on trying to get through.

I do hope this helps her realize that she can't treat people like that, and get her to change her ways, but I can't go back to that. I'm doing this for my own future, although hopefully it will have some positive impact on her as well. I mean, getting married is pretty important here, and if she doesn't change it's probably never happening for her, at least not to any halfway decent guy. To be honest, other than being nice, she doesn't have a lot to offer anyone, so if she can't even manage that she's screwed.

And Feba, 100% what Cid said. Being able to realize you are in a bad relationship, and knowing that no matter what you do you can't change someone, this is what is important. Move on and happy knowing you are making the ebst decision for all groups involved.

I only have nearly-nudes, but I mean, I'm not really feeling all that vengeful. At one point, she was like "this hurts so much", and I was like "Yeah, now imagine that over and over for months" "So this is your revenge..." "No, and the fact that you think like that is a big part of the reason this relationship isn't working."

She literally cried, begged and pleaded for over three hours, before settling on "I'll wait for you. Or jump.". She had been threatening to not return the ring, so I've agreed to be friends for the moment, but honestly, when it's coerced like that, I feel no need to hold up my end of the bargain after we settle the items I've lent her and the things she's lent me. Also, when you're super sad about a break up, using the same attitude to try to win him back over is probably not a good strategy?

Best part: "I'm gonna miss this hand..." "Yeah, but we both know why."

Since we're on this topic, I might as well share: My girlfriend broke up with me after three years of dating. She ended school, hadn't found a job, and was sitting on a lot of free time. She became very needy, and would ask me to come to her place after work, which was an hour and a half to two hours away due to traffic. All that free time and she couldn't just come up to my place. It was a problem I had no solution for, but I don't know if it was the reason the relationship ended.

She was my first girlfriend and would periodically tell me I needed to experience dating other people. She saw us getting married, and she didn't want me to somehow become resentful that she was my one and only. It seemed ironic that she broke up with me to sleep with another man. That relationship was terse, to say the least, and in the end the only thing she walked away with was two missed off men. She had the gall to sob hysterically when she learned I was dating again.
