When Apple refused to run Google Maps anymore it hd it's own Apple maps on iPhones. It basically sucked. I forgot what the app itself was called.

Sometimes I wonder if games just reveal what kind of a douchebag you are deep down if you could get away with it.

Yesterday, I was playing a card game with somebody. There are several ways to win, one of which is to kill your opponent. When I won, I got all giddy-like and said, with joy, "I killed her!"

A few weeks before I quit Final Fantasy XI, I was farming umbrils for Umbril Ooze and had just enough time to get one more and kill it before the night was over in Ceizak. Well, a DNC beat me to the claim on the last one. We both claimed it, but because he did it with melee hits, he was able to do a second action on it before I could get a second spell off. His fight didn't go well and I very much could have healed him. Instead, I just stood back and watched him bleed to death. All I did was cast self-buffs to make sure the umbril didn't "forget" me when the DNC died...which he did.

If you've played The Cave, there is one segment where a platforming puzzle culminates in a character killing off her workplace rival by dropping a boulder off a cliff, killing him (well...his ancestor really). It was necessary to progress on, but when I saw him below and the boulder on the cliff just above him, my first thought, "That is gonna be damn funny."

Going back to the reports of the soldier murdered by terrorists in London, well apparently in France there has been an attempted murder which the Police think is either linked or at the very least, a copycat.

Paris: French soldier has throat cut by knife-wielding attacker - Mirror Online

Thankfully the person involved is alive though badly hurt.

There has also been footage obtained of the Police gunning down the two terrorists who murdered the soldier in London earlier this week. Apparently they were planning to murder the first police to arrive, and one of the terrorists rushed the first car to arrive with a blade to give his accomplice time to take cover and open fire. It failed spectacular as the Police simply just opened fire from the window of the Police Car with MP5s, then gunned down the other terrorist. Even better is that they both survived it so they don't even get to become martyrs, and so are going to just rot for the rest of their lives.

                Videos are below:

Woolwich attack video: Watch shocking footage of terrorists charging at police car in attempt to kill WPC - Mirror Online (Obvious "The videos in this article contain footage of two people being gunned down by the police" warning)

Normally I hate violence but my response to seeing that on the news yesterday was "Holy crap that Police Officer is awesome".

                  well tonight sucked.

First I leave my phone in a cab, airport police is useless, flight is delayed by an hour and a half, get stuck in front of a screaming kicking pair of kids who decide to yell at each other for the entire flight (which didn't leave until after midnight); finally arrive and the bus driver says there are no seats left (clearly were), and there's another bus on the way (clearly wasn't), another three hours later I finally get home at 4, which means I get to stay up another six hours to go to class, because it's the second to last day and I'm not going to just skip it.

The good news at least being that immigration was nice, guy at a super market saw the photos of my fiancée in my wallet and was like "Man, you've got a pretty girlfriend", and my neighbor who moved out yesterday left me vodka, coffee, and a book.

My boss wants me to put together a draft of a resume tailor made to put me on a specific government contract.

I am very bad at this game.

Related to our discussion about eugenics, I listened to a RadioLab episode today that completely blew my mind.

The full story is much bigger than this, but that part that's relevant to our conversation is that in the mid-70s, not even eugenics but Child Protective Services was almost used as a tool to annihilate a race. At the time, CPS had a very narrow definition of what was an acceptable situation for a child to be raised, and there was a latent prejudice against American Indian culture. Something as common as a child being raised by a grandmother would be labeled as a situation of neglect, and Indian children were removed from their families and placed in foster care at a rate 16x higher than children of other backgrounds. As many as 35% of Indian children were taken. There were Indian communities where there were literally no children because they had all been taken.

All of this was done under the auspices of good intentions. CPS wanted the children to grow up in what they considered to be healthier circumstances, which turned out to be predominantly white nuclear families. It just so happened that these children were also cut off from their cultural heritage and racial identity, and placed into communities where their genetic legacy would have diluted into nothingness in the larger pool. Had the practices continued, the Indian people could have dissolved out of existence. In 1978, Congress passed the Indian Child Welfare Act, giving Indian families strong legal tools to overturn these decisions and reclaim their children.

Just a cautionary tale about how easily these ideas can take us down a dark path.

That seems more like just a continuation of our country's longstanding history of trying to eliminate any trace of the indigenous population.

I spent an hour trying to write and came up with only this:

Roderick was an unremarkable old man; perhaps only notable for how plain he was. He was friendly, warm, and a wonderful cook, but lonely. He spent his evenings in the familiar silence of his cellar with a longing for company so real he sometimes set a place for it at the table.

                            Why is this so hard?
