I bought too much stuff on Cyber Monday, most of it for myself. I bought myself $175 worth of fitness supplements from USP Labs due to 20% off coupon and a $200 27" LED monitor marked down from $300 with free shipping. For others, I bought a $75 cookware set marked down from $100, a $40 camera sling marked down from $65, and $40 for 4 pounds of protein due to 35% off coupon.

I had the strangest dream during the last 30 minutes of sleep.

I was in some mountains telling someone (can't recall who) how I can't use real ninjutsu so I need to kick everyone's ass twice as hard to make up for it. Some old man overheard me and told me he'd teach me the secrets of Korean ninjutsu if I delivered a package to Jessica Nigri. When I asked him why, he said he was too poor to pay for the $4 it would cost to mail it and that the mail only came by on Mondays anyways. In the next scene I arrived at Nigri's house (which was implied to have been hours away) and asked her if she knew the old man, but she didn't. The package turned out to be the first issue of the My Little Pony comic book, and she jumped with glee when she saw it. I don't remember the specifics but I'm pretty sure someone worked in "Dude, everyone wants to see Tara Strong in a bikini" into one of the conversations, but I don't know who or why.

The weird thing is none of that had any relevance to real life except the comic book, which I bought yesterday. I don't paticularly like Naruto or have been exposed to it recently. I don't keep up with whatever Jessica Nigri does, I only know her as that blonde model that landed the gig to cosplay as Juliet Starling but wasn't allowed into PAX because the costume was too revealing and they refused to change it. I've never talked to or heard anyone say anything about Tara Strong in a bikini (though to my surprise, a Google search just now did turn up a photo of her she posted on Twitter.)

        I'm so confused.

The worst times are when the person you're talking to can't seem to resolve their problem over the phone, so you have to go all the way over to their office, only for the problem to have mysteriously fixed itself because there was no problem in the first place (or they did actually try restarting the programme/computer while I was making my way all the way upstairs).

Or if it is a genuine bug but they can't (usually won't) reproduce it, then they act like you're the idiot because you can't fix it. Even though you have no idea as to what could possibly be causing it and how often it appears. You know, you get answers like "I don't know what I was doing, it just happened!" or "It was like this this morning honest!". Either that or they act like you're trying to blame then when really you're just trying to find out how this error appeared so you can work out how to fix the bloody error before more idiots blunder across it and complain.

Is it an IPS monitor? 'Cuz I snagged one refurbished off Newegg for $240 down from $300-something. There were some others at $200, but only the Asus had all the features I want (low input lag, 1:1 no-stretch mode, a stand that doesn't suck and VESA mounting.)

Actually I don't get that at all with my job.

Most people I help are at least moderately computer literate, and the ones who aren't are patient and gracious when I try to help them. But every so often they'll throw me a curve ball like "I can't figure out where the power button for my monitor is" and it's just baffling. This from the CEO who built the company from the ground up back in 1995, still has his original servers floating around the office and did a lot to show me the ropes when I was first interning here. He might not be a computer guru, but he's by no means computer illiterate so it's just a tad confusing to get that sort of request.

Naw, just an LED LCD monitor. I needed to upgrade from my old AOC 21" LCD, and I really liked the monitor so I went with their 27" LED LCD. It does have some pretty impressive specifications. What advantages do IPS monitors offer?

LED is the backlight type. Most monitors use TN panels. IPS panels are the ones that have good color reproduction and extremely large viewing angles. They used to be prohibitively expensive and reserved for professional graphic artists, but the prices have been coming down; I believe the latest iPad and the Nexus 10 but have IPS screens and you've seen the resolution on those. In fact, Korea seems to be pumping out 27" 2560x1440 IPS screens at modest prices. People seem quite pleased with them. The first link claims it shot rainbows straight into the cones of his eyes and that "every pixel on a TN screen is a bad pixel."

The reason I went with a 1080p Asus monitor instead is that the Korean monitors either don't have a scaler (which means they ONLY work at 2560x1440) OR they have a scaler but you'll get input lag (no console gaming @ 1080p.) I'm paying about 20% more per-pixel with Asus than with a Korean one, and it's 23" instead of 27", but it's been benchmarked to have the same input lag as the TN Asus ones they use in EVO.

I got my monitor yesterday but the HDMI cable I ordered hasn't arrived yet so I can't verify the claims about the rainbows. Maybe I'll hunt down a VGA cable in the meantime.

I was looking into resolutions higher than 1080p, but all I came across were Dell's UltraPriced monitors. There's no way in hell I'm paying a grand for 27" of 1440, even though it'd look sweet. On a slight tangent, we did have about 30 of the 32" UltraSharp monitors in office storage for a few months. All together, they're worth the same amount as a high-end Buick. I hope we have some insane discount, because almost everything we use is built, sold, or branded by Dell.

I remember when she posted that. She has a regular habit of saying she's posting something suggestive of herself, but it usually turns out to be one of the characters she voiced in a weird situation (e.g. she'll say something about working out and warn of frontal nudity, with a picture of Timmy Turner with exaggerated pecks). So when she said "me in a bikini" and it was actually her in a bikini, Twitter was taken by surprise.

That was probably the most awesomely relevant to this topic dream ever. XD

Ok, I found a VGA cable and to my surprise VGA does support 1080p. I can confirm the bit about the rainbows and the cones. I can't go back to a TN panel now. I can't bare to look at my laptop screen.
