So wish me luck.

(Yeah, I know I've been gone awhile, RL has been hectic, with a move and my job leaving me less than zero free time.)

I put my hat in the ring for a position at work, and it would be a huge step up. I have some experience with it from my current job, which is more than I can say for most others who are likely applying, and I think I'd do an exceptional job.

I worry about my boss though, I've been filling in for our second since he got in a really bad car accident, and basically wearing two hats. Boss lady would be lost without my help right now, because currently, no one else can do what I do. The thing is, I can't let that hold me back. Second is coming back eventually, and people can be trained to move up. I know someone will step up. I just worry she won't see it that way and will attempt to cockblock my attempt at getting the job to keep me, which is shitty but possible.

But I spoke with a friend of mine who basically advised me to go for it - I won't get the chance again and I can't let boss lady - or my worry about our department - keep me from moving forward. He also said that my prior experience with the line of work could give me a really strong edge, unless of course they already have someone in mind and posting it was just a formality.

So I'm on pins and needles. I sent the e-mail with my resume and cover letter this morning when I arrived home from work. I can't wait to hear something. And because I have nowhere else to share this with any anonymity since my friend (the only person I trust with this news) is probably asleep, well, this is my "hey I'm back" and my chance to tell someone that I went for it. Big time.

Iirc your boss is a big, fat bitch, so maybe if she fails your department hard she'll get replaced by someone who will do better for them. Good luck on the position.

I haven't heard anything yet, not even a reply e-mail to say that she received it, so I'll call in the morning (tomorrow) to inquire. But I appreciate all the well wishes, feels kind of good to see support here.

She's quite good at it, she's just a bitch. I've gotten used to working with her and I understand her expectations now, though, so I don't really have the same problems I had before. I'd still prefer that she wasn't my boss, though.
