Re: Official Bored at Work / Off-Topic Chat Thread II
I toured our new office today. I felt like a god damned movie star. That place is so fucking fancy it's crazy. Three floors of gorgeousness in the newest skyscraper downtown. Mid century modern went to town up in this bitch. I'm going to have to step up my workplace clothes game.

So apparently I can now share any of this forum's posts on Twitter.
Including my own.
Hmm.
(The buttons are rather clunky where they're located, though.)
ADD: Also, a couple of screenshots, one of which taken solely to freak Ray out (and the other to indicate something celebratory slipped in to the latest version update):

Reason: FWIW, I'm 49 RDM right now. The screenshots were taken two-and-a-half weeks apart from each other.

So yeah. After 2 months of not logging on in the slightest, I logged back on to Final Fantasy XI today to announce that I was leaving the game. At least, tentatively. Barring some brand new expansion (and by expansion, I don't mean reskinned zones). Not leaving with any hard feelings about the game. Just figured that, for now, I've gotten everything I can possibly get out of playing the game.

Yeah. Even now I'm wondering if I'm going to have any regrets. I mean, people quit and come back all the time right? But as things stand right now, I'm just dragging on an experience I no longer enjoy. I think I've gotten everything good I can out of the game for roughly 8 years. And, by any standard, 8 years is an impressive amount of time to be playing the same game. But to drag it on would just end up tarnishing the good memories of the experience.
Was wondering how much of the game I should "take" with me. Do I want to remember what all my gear was? Or what mission I've done? Or what endgame activities I completed? I eventually decided the best thing would just be to perhaps take an iconic picture of the game. Took a screenshot of my character on that cliff overlooking the old Tavnazia. Probably one many people have taken. Also one without my character that is acting as my desktop wallpaper now. Guess it's a sort of "I was here" kind of thing.

You might want to hang on to your macros. Put 'em on an external harddrive or something. If you come back years from now and have to redo them from scratch you'll want to kick yourself.
I'm not far from joining you in that departure. It's been weeks since I last logged in and I find myself yearning for Guild Wars 2 more than I find myself wanting to roam Vanadiel. The trend in game design since Abyssea ended hasn't really encouraged me to stick around either.

I had great memories as well, playing for 8+ years. But you do a disservice to your fond memories by pushing yourself to continue playing when you no longer have the same passion for the game.
