Re: Official Bored at Work / Off-Topic Chat Thread II
I wouldn't worry. Santorum - like Bachman - says too many dumb things to stay there for long. You should really be worried about Perry still being in the running.
I'm getting apathetic toward the what we have in the GOP options. Obama clearly has to go but the current frontrunner is the most anemic establishment-minded Republican they have in Mitt Romney. He's just as terrible as Obama in just about every respect and issue save for he's kind-of sort of about sticking with the Constitution. As mean-spirited as Newt Gingrich can be he's often the smartest man in the room - especially now that Herman Cain is out (obviously because we can still have the media string up a black man on a sex scandel - especially a republican one - but pretty much any white guy caught in the act gets a pass from the press, especially if they're a democrat).
I like a lot of what Rob Paul says, its just those moments of batshit crazy in the foreign policy department I'm not too keen on. Ignore Iran? Eh, no, their government is too fucking crazy and dangerous to ignore.
Also WTF at this Newsweek cover:
Epic Fail Within
Better question: Who runs with a headline like that? Let's just forget some of the obvious targets of this article, I mean, what about what little democrat support Obama has left? He's the only guy the have on the re-election ballot, is Newsweek also saying they're dumb to question him on anything? I think the NDAA was the final betrayal for some of them. They can't question that?
The problem Obama faces right now is he can't run on his record. His record is shit, so all that can be done now is attack those speaking against him, whoever they might be. That's what that cover and article are communicating.
Here's a good rebuttal to that coverstory, though;
I saw him snap at Camate earlier today for bumping the Gravity II thread.
Camate quite obviously didn't appreciate that . . .
I imagine that being the whipping boy between the developers and the community would wear down all but the saintliest of persons . . .
I wasn't the only one thank you, it was a group effort.
His supervisors really shouldn't send him to the Red Mage forum to say stuff like that. It always ends badly for everyone when you wander into a highly aggressive and opinionated community to tell them basic stuff they already know as though they couldn't figure it out for themselves. I mean really, who in their right mind would wander into that forum and go "Hey Red Mages, did you know that Gravity II does the same thing Gravity does"? That's not the issue people are having with Gravity II, and anyone who was even slightly in touch with the Red Mage community would know better. That shit is borderline trolling.

This. Newt is the smartest man, and easily is the best debater. He hears someone say something dumb and he calls them on it, I don't consider that mean spirited. If by mean spirited you're talking about the ads he's running, they are necessary if he wants to stand a chance. Sean Hannity said it best, political ads that attack an opponent's ethics, background, or political past work. That's why people run them, and that's why Herman Cain is no longer in the race.

Oh, I know, Mitt pretty much started the mudslinging. I just hate that it happens at all.
Then again, no better who gets the nomination, there will be mudslinging. Obama started a while ago.

College students are panicking today because Wikipedia is down, which I find hilarious. I guess they got so used to it that many of them use the library for resources as a last resort these days. Must be painful to have to go there. I actually have fun memories of posing as a Wake Forest student to use their library because the school I was using for my associates degree before transfer had a real shitty library. Wake's was massive.
When I pulled in to the parking lot there, I saw Maya Angelou walking out of the library with a couple of bodyguards. Now I know why the caged bird sings.

I don't understand all the hate for Wikipedia. I have an inquiring mind, and it's been a great source of information for nearly all of my interests. At one point in time I was interested in the realism behind crafting in video games, so I took a look at the various ways their real counterparts are made, such as textiles, metals, chemicals, and whatever else. Where else am I supposed to do that? It's also a great source for history, myths, and fables. My favorite part is the section for relevant links at the bottom of each page, which makes it a lot easier to move from one subject to another.

Back when people like us were in college, we were allowed one maybe two Internet citations. There wasn't a slightly more credible Wikipedia to let people get by on.
Slightly. But I'm sure professors have been broken further since and they allow more now. Right now there are kids arguing over copies of the encylopedia :p

Don't get it twisted, I don't hate Wikipedia, but it, much like most of the internet, isn't really reliable as a source. At best, it's a starting point for research. Go to the bottom of the page and grab the wiki page's sources. Wiki crawls are fun as hell. But wikis are constantly changing so it's tough to rely on their info. We were not allowed to use it as a source when I was in school.
