He's probably not dead. I think its just something they said to try and reinforce how people feel about the military, and saying how it can get things done.

I don't believe it, and wont until I see proof, as the US has lied about a hell of a lot of shit.

There's a place for both. We say "justice" when we want to appeal to a sense of fairness, as if punishment delivered the victim some sort of equal recompense for their suffering, exemplified by "paying the price for your crimes." The economic ideal here rarely if ever occurs. We think of vengeance of just being about satisfying our anger, but it also accomplishes something much more important: deterrence. If your enemy thinks that any action against you will be returned in kind with an irrational multiplier, they are much less likely to act against you. You're much less likely to push me if you think there's a credible chance I'll flip out and beat the shit out of you. Russia is less likely to nuke us if they think we could credibly wipe out their cities as well. The key word is credible. Unfortunately that means sometimes you have to spend a decade and illions of dollars hunting a man to the ends of the earth, even if you receive little or no real benefit from finally killing him.

Ultimately, it's arguable whether we got either out of this. Clearly, this news doesn't do anything in a real sense for the families of those who have died in terrorist attacks on and since 9/11. Perhaps some of them are celebrating, some others got a warm feeling but you know plenty of others are saying "so what" assuming they even believe the news. Strategically the advantage we get from this is unclear. Al Qaeda didn't exactly have a rigid power structure, so it's not as though the organization is going to crumble. Some people are saying this will affect the morale of the terrorists, but I'm not sure it's in the way that they think. Didn't we just make this man a martyr? Given that, it seems unlikely that we deterred anything. At the edges there are probably extremists who would wish for that kind of death.

But for all that, this senseless behavior was our only rational move.

I'm pleased to see justice in some fashion has been served although if I'm honest I find the celebration of someone's death, no matter how "evil", to be a little unsettling.

I can't say I've emitted a cheer or done cartwheels or even felt patriotic over all this.

Someone put down a creature. Apparently a well-fed one that lived in a mansion, yet condemned thousands of innocent lives to death for their "decadence" and believing in another god or no god at all. Meanwhile his followers lived in caves, malnourished and exposed the everyday elements. So we put down a rather hypocritical creature.

All I can really say is a bullet to the head was too kind, there are likely people on death row that I'd have more sympathy for and might see a human soul in them.

It sucks for whoever got the kill shot on him. You can bet your ass he (or possibly she) is being sworn to silence about it. I mean hell, that person must want to brag about it so badly but can't because the moment any of these terrorist shits gets wind of it, they'll be after that guy and his family for sure.

At least the free world can celebrate this small victory and rejoice in the fact that in all likeliness he's burning in hell right now. I just wonder if Obama's going to use this in his re-election bid (I can't see why he wouldn't, he just got himself a huge ace)

Morbid much? I hated Saddam Hussein as I saw firsthand what kind of hell his citizens lived in, but I didn't need to watch him die. I still wish I hadn't seen the video, after all this time. I don't see what the good of it really is.

I'd say that a bullet wound was far less than he deserved, but I wouldn't want to have to watch something like that. Nor do I think everyone needs to see it, either. There are some things that people just shouldn't see, imo.

I'm not really a morbid person to be honest it's more of a case of "seeing is believing"
Bin lid's body is hidden we only have peoples word it has been done. As far as I was concerned he had died a long time ago after escaping wounded on the back of a donkey to somewhere. "not being offensive it's what the 1am documentary said lol"

I work to preserve preserve life almost every day it's one of the most precious and fragile things I can think of.
I'm not saying I'd enjoy seeing it done, I'd just like something more solid than "we killed him, His body is somewhere"
I'm off googling now though. I've not seen anything from people his side saying anything about it. not even "well he didnt show up for work today"

I"m just glad if it is true then I hope the families and friends those who have perished in 9/11 and on the frontlines gain a little bit of closure.
A eye for an eye is never the right way to go about things. But there's some batsh!t crazy people out there and we would be better off without them. Especially when they installed fear and hatred worldwide by their actions and twisted religion to their own designs to turn it into a symbol of war and death.

I'm not a horrible person, I'm not violent in the slightest. The closest I get to a fight is letting my pet do all the work on ffxi.

Okay, that makes more sense. I just see a lot of people posting about how they wanted to watch him be like, burned at the stake and I'm just thinking, "What would that accomplish?" When you put it like that, I guess as proof, that makes sense. But there's so much of the government we will never know the truth about, what's one more thing?

I just know a lot of people wanted to watch it like it was some spectator sport, and that feels wrong to me.
