Family Appreciation Day was a trainwreck until Granny Smith whipped out her map.

"Nom nom nom" and the last time that flour was used were the highlights of Baby Cakes for me.

Also, Pinkie Pie character development! Naturally, the episode was also sickeningly sweet; the ending (including that part with the flour) was far more adorable than it had any right to be.

Family Appreciation Day was kind of "ok" and then it turned awesome with Granny Smith's backstory. I got a kick out of Stinkin' Rich and Filthy Rich's names too.I enjoyed Baby Cakes all the way through though. Especially Pinkie's stand-up act. Am I the only one who was reminded of Tigger when she did the pig song?

That ending was extremely adorable. The kind of thing that makes you actually go "d'awwwww" out loud.

And I almost forgot about the "nom nom nom" part. I also loved that.

Especially Pinkie's stand-up act. Am I the only one who was reminded of Tigger when she did the pig song?

Speaking of her stand-up bit, I cracked up at that cough you hear in the background after she is finished.

And I didn't think of Tigger then, but I can see it now. :3

If there's one thing that annoyed me about Baby Cakes, it's the conclusion.

The break-down is understandable, but I still think it wasn't Pinkie Pie. They could have given her a better solution than that. Something more akin to the character they've been portraying since the first episode, y'know? How they should have done it? I have no idea.

Overall, still one of my top episodes. Too many Pinkie antics not to be.

Now hurry up and premier the damn "Smile, Smile, Smile" song. The leak is tempting to listen to!

Wow. I don't think I could disagree with you any more.

For once in her life, Pinkie Pie got out-God-moded. She got proud (especially apparent after Twilight finished her redundancies), bit off more than she could chew, and ultimately had to fall and show weakness for it in order to become a stronger, er, pony (that "character development" thing), and I don't think that the writers could have possibly thought of a more appropriate situation for that to happen than the realistically stressful caring of infants. (This alone puts this episode miles above "May the Best Pet Win" for me, in spite of having a dramatically inferior song.) For all the trouble that she's put through, though, she (and the audience) are rewarded with an ending so sickeningly sweet, that Pinkie eventually conceded that it might be worth going through it all over again, in spite of now knowing all that she would have to go through this time around.

Aside, Pinkie Pie was still Pinkie Pie. Even Pound Cake couldn't stay out of the reach of her suction cups forever.

God, I love this show.

Also, I should probably feel old considering how much I Love Lucy I have seen (not to mention a fuckton of other black and white shows and movies), but I don't. I really don't.

Have some Derpy reaction as well! I was getting some coffee when the episode started and I just zoomed into the living room when I swore I heard Rainbow Dash calling "Derpy". Fangasm!

For any who haven't seen yesterday's episode yet, I will make sure to spoiler any images or gifs I post. I won't however, spoiler my words, so anything below these words is a

SPOILER.

I loved the episode. It was just crammed full of awesome moments.

I was so surprised and happy to see them acknowledge Derpy as the official name, and then couldn't believe my ears when I heard her speak. While one friend of mine did not care for her voice or how they portrayed her as dumb, I found her voice (done by the awesome Tabitha St. Germaine) adorable, and I didn't mind how she was portrayed.

Also, as already mentioned, the I Love Lucy reference was just so great.

Awesome. Just...awesome.

The scene where Pinkie was continuously saying funny words was also fantastic. I cracked up when she was going "pickle barrel kumquat pickle barrel kumquat" and was popping up from various corners on the screen.

Another scene that made me about bust a gut was Pinkie just out of no where saying "Rarity catch me" immediately after finishing her sentence.

Seriously.

But even all the other stuff I didn't mention in the episode were great. I just loved it.

Well...mostly. There WAS one thing I didn't care for.

After all this time, AJ finally got an episode where she was supposed to be the star, and another pony stole the show yet again. She usually ends up low on fave character polls, and it's cause she doesn't get as many scenes that people want to immortalize through Youtube. About the only thing that she has got this season has been the lying shifty eye face from the Discord two-parter.

Relevant.

So this past Saturday night I'm at The Rocky Horror Picture Show here in Boston. As is traditional, those people who have not been to the show before are hazed a little bit before they play the movie. This week, they took all 12 people to the front and asked them "Who's your favorite cartoon character". They all answered basic stupid ones... like Tweety Bird... Bugs Bunny... Garfield... etc. Little did they know what they would be asked next. Once everyone had answered... they were then told as a group to "One at a time... give your best impression of the character you picked... having an orgasm".

The last (and admittedly most normal looking) guy in line's favorite cartoon character, you ask? Twilight Sparkle. Hilarity ensued. It's a shame they don't let you bring a camera in the theater. What I wouldn't give to see the look on his face again.

Also: After his impression fell a bit short (in both time and execution) I took it upon myself to shout... "that didn't last long. Are you sure you're not Rainbow DASH?!"

I'm hilarious, I know.

Also, I'm excited to finally see an actual engine demo for the Pony racing game. It's been a long time in the making and I was starting to think it became vaporware. Looking good!
