Yeah, once I saw it I had to grab it! I KNEW the style looked familiar but couldn't quite grasp the artist until I remembered a certain happy-go-lucky Rarity.
This is Pinkie Pie we're talking about here... but regardless, art description!
"Set not too long after the events of 'Sonic Rainboom', Rainbow decides to take Pinkie to see a movie at Ponyville's outdoor theatre to celebrate. Still under the influence of Twilight's cloud walking spell, Pinkie is able to enjoy the show from the seating normally only accessible to Pegasi."
Anyone else think that Derpy looks like a Diamond Dog?
Hey, you're right. She's definitely got that big chin and weird mouth thing going on there.
In other news, who wants some development sketches and notes from Lauren Faust?
Goodies!
"A sketch of Twilight used for the original 2008 MLP:FiM pitch bible.
Note original cutie mark--- a variation of the 80's Moondancer, which I always liked as a kid."
"Development sketch for MLP:FiM 2008 pitch bible. I have no idea how she uses that shovel..."
"Development sketch for 2008 MLP:FiM pitch bible. I imagined she was telling RD how cockamamy her idea was..."
"Development sketch for 2008 MLP:FiM pitch bible. This sketch was based off a fantastic sketch Paul Rudish did for me!"
"You all have seen Pinkie as a pegasus, now see Fluttershy when she was an earth pony."
"I heard Snow White going "oh!" when I drew this one."
"Her original name was indeed Appleseed. Ran into some copyright issues, and now she is Apple Bloom. In the original bible, she was solo in her quest for a Cutie Mark, and "seed" signified that she still needed to grow. CMC's Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle were developed later."
"These were just random Fillydelphia residents. I wanted Ponyville to be Fillydelphia originally. Obviously that didn't pan out, but I was glad we got to use the name somewhere else."
"When I submitted the premise for the pilot, there was concern that facing a Manticore would be too scary for kids, so I designed him kind of dopey to help ease worry. Imagine my surprise when I got the note that he didn't look threatening enough!! It's not often that you're happy to get a note, but I was. I like the final one better."
"To address worry that things would be too scary, I skewed the dragons kind of pretty at first. Might have been an interesting direction...."
And now I bestow upon you some entertainment! Don't be fooled by the intro, this is an abridged series worth your time. The first few episodes are a little rough around the edges (well, regarding to the humor and audio), but each episode gets better and better. I think starting from episode 5 he got the hang of it; have a look-see!
