. Here we're running this facility which we know has the capacity to produce a huge ecoogical, economic and humanitarian disaster, and there are backup systems in place to ostensibly prevent that, but OOPS guess the backups don't work after all.

I remember reading something about one of the troubled reactors being scheduled for retirement this month anyway.

And Aks, that's one of the plus sides of being here. Not a ton of people expressing that sentiment.

Wow, you'd think reading Wikipedia for like five minutes might kill those people.

To say this is the earth's retribution, karma or God's judgement against Japan is infantile and idiotic.

If you wanted to say such an event shows how inconsequential humanity is to the earth, that I might agree with. Seeing such things happen makes you realize how little control you have with Mother Nature decides to have a bad day.

Or more importantly, the concentration camps. There is some justification which can be done for use of atomic force.

There's no way to justify imprisoning your own citizens based off their race.

But I mean, an unprovoked attack? The US has gotten ourselves into plenty of that.

Not like it matters to these people-- if you think that Pearl Harbor was the target of a nuclear attack, or in general are upset about an action that happened nearly seventy years ago (as in, your parents were probably not alive; for the younger among us, grandparents), you're not thoughtfully considering anything.

I wonder how many countries that haven't fucked over America at some point or another. We all do it to each other; fuck, we've been to war with Canada and Mexico, our closest neighbors, plus all of the native American peoples that wouldn't give up their land, and then we got bored and decided to go to war with ourselves just for the hell of it. Pretty much everyone has attacked everyone at some point.

The only joke about all this that was even remotely funny was one made by "Th Amazing Athiest" which of course people took (rather poetically actually) out of context; "God damn it, even their earthquakes score higher than ours" heh, which of course is a crack at the American educational system and not the suffering of the Japanese, but it did still strike me as being in poor taste.


The Pearl Harbor shit though... yeah okay, not cool. Not even comparable either, for that matter. Pearl Harbor was a tragedy but how many thousands/millions of people died to the twin nukes? Nevermind the decades of Radioactive fallout & poisoning. And somehow Japan deserves a 3rd fucking nuclear disaster?

Methinks Jesus wouldn't find all this very Kosher.

I have a feeling this might just be the killer of FFXIV. With its already dwindling playerbase and the fact that they're forced to take a week - possibly more - away from the game, I wouldn't be too surprised if this is the final nail in its coffin. Players are going to find other things to do in that time, and a good many of them may be missing it at first, but let me tell you, after a week goes by without an MMO, you start to desire to log in less and less often, until your desire to play is pretty much gone.

I'd hope it doesn't come to that, but this is not good for the future of XIV, if I had to guess. XI will survive, but I'd be willing to bet they take some subscription hits here, too.

No doubt SE did the right thing here, but this move is going to cost them a lot. Let's hope they can pull back out of it.

Are those people really from the US?

Because if they are then they must probably be terrified out of their minds about what will happen to their country should this mystical past-attacks-on-other-countries-to-natural-disasters-ratio is true, cosidering USA's record.
