  • Wow... Such a beautiful song and voice...

    I am in love with this music. I have never heard it until today, and I love it. Everyone should hear this song.

    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vu_GyfW_AhI&feature=related]YouTube - Celtic Women- Fairies[/ame]

    I never felt this way about music before, and I will never feel this way about music again. I feel at peace hearing this, and I feel as if my life is complete when I heard this.

    I listen to music like this too. In fact, I have several different setups for sleeping at night on my bad nights. It relaxes me and helps me sleep for a few hours straight without waking. (I have a tendency to wake up every 1 1/2 to 2 hours.) I also listen to Buddhist chants and traditional Japanese/Chinese/Norwegian/Celtic instrumental music.

      Ya... I am trying to broaden my music collection. I have been changing the types of music I listen to slowly. At first I only started listening to GNR and SOAD, then it changed with LP, REM, and 3 days grace and 3 doors down.

      I am open to any suggestions anyone can give me with music though... I will listen to just about anything really, as long as its not bad rap or jazz.,..

        ^^ Celtic music is awesome.

        I don't care how biased or intolerant it sounds, but so much of the shit they play on the Radio today, to me, doesn't even pass for music. And I agree TGM, some of those chants are cool. In fact they were a big part of Martin O'Donnel's inspiration for Halo's music.

        Damn I hate that he's not gonna be doing the music for those games anymore... Even if you're not a Halo fan, try listening to the tracks from ODST - it's some of Marty's best work IMO really fantastic stuff. Neon Night's my absolute favorite from that one.

        Awesome mixture of Piano & Night Club Jazz. Also, since it's the holidays, did anyone catch Larry King on New Years Eve? It was a repeat (yeah it's sad he's done now but that's for another thread) but he had all kinds of celebrities and in particular I wanted to post this:

        Happy Holidays, and wow what a voice (yes I've heard of him before, but that's the nicest rendition of White Christmas I've ever heard)

          If you like the song you linked, you need to get acquainted with the angel-on-Earth known as Enya.

            That is completely oponionized. Everyone has their own opinion about music but yes, I will agree with you on that. I listen to a station that plays all kinds of music, and I enjoy most of it, but not as much as I enjoy this music.

            I don't know what I have been listening to my entire life...

              Yes, Bocelli is good and I have several of his CD's but Placido Domingo blows him out of the water. Too bad I don't think he's done a rendition of White Christmas. I'm still partial to the one done by Bing Crosby but thats because I grew up on that shit. lol

              EDIT: I did see a version with Michael Bolton and Domingo and I can't listen to Bolton....I just can't...

              But I did find this and its beautiful...

                Erutan/Katethegreat19's work might be up your alley.

                  You might want to check out the Afro-Celt Sound System. They do some pretty cool stuff. Celtic instrumentation, African Tribal drums/chants - sometimes veering to one more strongly than the other, but its always an interesting blend. Sometimes also they'll have a special guest vocalist. It can get into the dance realm sometimes:

                    I like the Erutan one, but Afro Celt... I don't like it too much. :/

                      Re: Wow... Such a beautiful song and voice...

                      Well, I like traditional sounding stuff, but it only keeps me interested for so long. Eventually, something else has to be thrown into it.

                      Just remember, you listen to too much celtic and you're just a few steps away from Bluegrass and Contra Dances

                      [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_514yYNEZS8]YouTube - Arizona Contra Dance 2006 May Madness[/ame]

                      Not bad thing, though.

                      I actually helped plan a bunch of these in one of my student clubs. These dances are a very easy to learn, but also very intense workouts and chances you will meet everybody on the floor. Contra dances are what you could call the precursor to Square Dancing. Its just less corny than square dancing and no one has a shotgun in their car or truck.

                      The only downside to it? That song was a short one. It can go on for twenty minutes if the composition has enough variety. Its generally best to sit out every other song.

                      Its also not for jealous personalities - some formations require you make contact with everyone.

                        I am really interesting in dancing, but I can not dance at all.

                          Old celtic/contra dances (same thing, really) are rather simple to get into. There's no real fancy steps to any of it, its all just simple rhythms and patterns. In fact, the whole thing is divided into small squares that eventually interact with each other. But if you can walk and chew bubble gum at the same time, you can do this.

                          Plus there's usually a caller present and they guide people through a small tutorial of steps and terminology for newcomers at the start of such gatherings.

                          Its not really about looking good, you lose your inhibitions about embarasment pretty fast once you've crossed over to the next lady by joining hands with the 300 lb dude for the fourth time.

                          Unlike pairs dancing, where the man is the driver and the woman is the momentum, contra dances are just all momentum. Once you've gotten into it, its kinda like a light mathematical zen moment hits you and even the most daunting twists are easy to deal with - like when they start weaving everyone into a giant spiral and then reverse it to weave the dancers back out. At that point, though, the caller sometimes dives into the fray to lead that, just to keep it safe.

                            Yea... If some one where to show me the steps, I could get into it fairly easily, but once I am into the mood, I don't like to stop lol.

                            But, there are no real places that does anything I actually like to do around here, so its hard to find a place to do that.

                            It also doesn't help that I don't have a car lol.

                              Trans Siberian Orchestra - Ode To Joy, search for that or some of their other stuff on YouTube....and it's probably not what you are thinking it is. I love this group and their concerts are amazing.
