Of course, games don't give you cancer. Well, maybe Halo.

Even at my heaviest level of smoking I only went through 3-4 packs a week. That still adds up, but not to $50 a week. Geez. Then again, people throw money away on all sorts of things. Hence why I long ago broke my twice a day Starbucks mocha habit. That was $52/week.

Dak: If you don't want people's smoke in your lungs, maybe you should stop putting words in other's mouths.

They've been printing fairly disturbing images on the back of cigarette packets and also huge warning labels on the front for years in the UK. My friends who smoke collect them like trading cards.

This whole approach strikes me as incredibly immature. Yes cigarettes are dangerous to your health but this is just ridiculous. We're responsible adults making our own decisions about how we do or do not want to partake in a completely legal substance. If the government wants to discourage us from smoking so damn badly then they need to man up and ban it outright instead of being all passive aggressive about it.

Denis Leary said it nearly twenty years ago now. You could put them in a black pack with a skull and a crossbones on the front and call them Tumors and smokers would be lining up around the block to get them.

I still find the "if your under a balcony where someone is smoking your effect" argument, that made me laugh. I don't smoke myself, but I have a few friends that do, and sometimes I go with them to places that allow smoking, guess what, I deal with it.

Just because I don't like smoking does not mean I should go around and tell others they can not smoke. Yes cigarettes have cancer causing agents in them, but like everything else "bad" it is blown way out of proportion and people take it way to seriously.

And seriously, in my very first post in the thread I pointed out that this isn't going to discourage current smokers. People who want or feel that they need to smoke? They're going to smoke.

Since certain people are clearly dragging their feet towards a productive discussion, I'll end with a few statistics.

An estimated 126 million non-smokers are exposed to second hand smoke on a day-to-day basis. Second hand smoke contains over 40,000 chemicals, 50 of which are known carcinogens. Each year about 3,400 non-smokers die of lung cancer realted to second hand smoke. Second hand smoke also causes an estimated 46,000 deaths per year related to heart disease in non-smokers.
