  • Oh come on! I've been gaming for 35+ years...

...and I've never injured myself doing it! lol

Express.co.uk - Home of the Daily and Sunday Express | UK News :: Hand hitch for best man Andy

"TENNIS star Andy Murray has vowed to fulfill his role as brother Jamie’s best man today, despite injuring his hand while playing a computer game.
The highly competitive world No 4 was forced to wrap his right hand in ice after straining a tendon using his PlayStation.

Andy, 23, was playing Pro Evolution Soccer against doubles partner Dani Vallverdu when he was felt a twinge in his hand.

After losing to Venezuelan David Cup player Vallverdu, who was born in Spain, Murray wrote on his website: “Aagh! I just lost 1 match to Dani at the new Pro Evolution and I think I broke my hand!”

He added: “Icing the hand – time to grow up Andy!”

Glasgow-born Andy, who has earned £2million this year, hopes to shake off the injury before performing his official role at 24-year-old Jamie’s nuptials today.

One close friend said: “Everyone knows how much Andy loves to win – and his loathing of any defeat.

“He’s the same whether it’s a computer game or the real thing. Golf, tennis, football, basketball, he just hates losing and we all have a mental picture of him going crazy with the controls trying his best to beat Dani.

“Andy’s hand is a bit sore, but the tennis season is over and he’s said that nothing will stop him doing his bit for Jamie on his big day.”

Doubles star Jamie is tying the knot with Colombian student Alejandra Gutierrez at a service in their home town, Dunblane, Perthshire.

The couple’s banns were posted in the town’s registry office earlier this month and the groom’s party will be dressed in Murray tartan kilts. Former Wimbledon mixed doubles champion Jamie lives with fiancée Alejandra, 20, in London.

Andy arranged a marathon stag party last month at the Whisky Mist nightspot in Mayfair.

The wedding venue remains secret but the ceremony is expected to be a traditional affair.

The tennis brothers’ separated parents, Judy and William, are both expected to attend.
It is understood Andy will be with girlfriend Kim Sears, 22, after they rekindled their A relationship.

I dunno, I got blisters from doing Soulcalibur 2 in the arcade a lot and some serious carpel tunnel from Tony Hawk and SSx3. Got a little tennis elbow from Metroid Prime Trilogy.

All minor stuff, but you can hurt yourself with the repetition if you keep going too long.

Ok, I had something happen but it wasn't actually because of many hours gaming....well....kind of....but...

I have to play with gloves on when I play with a controller. (ya ya get the laughing over with...) I get these tiny under the skin bubbles of fluid after too much controller usage. If I just play for an hour then I don't have to wear them but if I lose track of time and play for a few hours, then the little itchy bubbles appear under the skin on my fingers. I have baffled many a doctor with these bubbles too. Some said it was something that had never been documented and was a freak incident........but then it happened to my son. LOL (Poor kid with a mom like me handing out diseases in my genetic code and now THIS! lol) So, if you call that an "injury", and I don't, then I guess I have.

I was surprised the injury didn't happen during a Wii game.

              Gaming injuries are so 90s

Unless it's from the Wii, then it's totally 00s and totally hilarious.

Anyone who's ever owned a Dreamcast (myself included) knows what a nasty job that shitty D-pad on the controller does on your left thumb.

Seriously playing MvC hurt like a bitch after a while. Some Wii games can really do a number on the shoulders too, mostly Mario Galaxy & Zelda.

No they are not. They were not above the skin, they were below the skin and itched like hell...as I specified. Even the doctor did not call them blisters.

I've had more than a few crop up over the years. I used to get mad blisters on my hand from the first Mario Party spinning the control stick and there's still a little bit of a callus left even today. Too much SF:Third Strike during college also did something similar to my left thumb. Oh and FFXI gave me CTS.

They're all RSIs of some sort or another. It really isn't all that surprising or unusual that it happens to anyone who spends enough time playing.

Mine are not caused by friction, they are caused by contact. They are usually on the sides of my fingers and I've never had any on my thumbs.

Weird, sounds like I get the same things. I never did connect them to gaming though.

A blister is a bump that rises above the surrounding skin, usually significantly, and you can easily see and feel its full of fluid. The bumps I get are tiny, like pin head size at most. The bump is slight and hard. You would never think there is fluid in it but they itch like hell and if you scratch off the top skin clear fluid comes out and a little hole is left behind, like there was a little ball in there or something. Don't worry, it stumped my dermatologist too.
