Dispatchers received a call reporting a reckless driver in the 2300 block of North Mayfair Road at 9:34 p.m. Sept. 12. He nearly struck a car, was swerving between lanes and failed to use his turn signal.

When an officer pulled behind the 24-year-old man's vehicle he noticed the driver was leaning over the passenger seat. During the traffic stop he noticed the driver was eating a sandwich and had a loaf of bread and packages of salami and cheese on the passenger seat.

He said he had gotten into a fight with his mother and was just driving around.

He went on to say he was a recovering marijuana and oxycodone addict who recently relapsed, but he denied using drugs that day. He did have a bottle of vodka on the car floor and said he'd had six to 10 vodka drinks that morning.

His blood-alcohol content was 0.05, less than the legal limit for drunken driving. A blood sample was sent to the state crime lab to look for evidence of drugs and to verify the alcohol content."

I eat or drink fast food on the days I'm busy as hell. But I don't often drive now, I'm usually chauffeured.

Though I do have those days where I space out and magically find myself at my destination.

On a related note... I just heard on the news that 5,000 Americans died due to distracted driving.

I've also seen people drive while on the lap top, reading the newspaper, texting, and doing their make up.

Usually I just drive, to be honest. I don't eat in the car, though I guess occasionally I'll have a coffee with me or something. But I only take drinks at stop lights.

I think talking on a cell phone and driving being dangerous is bullshit. I talk to my passengers while driving, it's the same fucking thing. I'm not closing my eyes to the road in front of me. These same people are shitty at driving no matter what they're doing honestly.

Anyway, I'll admit to the texting while driving thing, but I never had to look at my phone in order to do it, and I've only done it a few times. Putting on earrings, brushing my hair, talking on the phone, and eating are all things I've done. Not regularly, but if I'm running late for work, hell yes I'm brushing my hair while driving down the road. Lol.

As for make up? Fuck, I don't wear it, so you'll never see me put it on while driving. And I do text a lot at red lights, but (most of the time, I'm not perfect) I put it down when the light changes because I'm not writing novels here, usually a "k" or "almost home" or something simple and short. On the rare occasion that I've got a long text to send, I'll type it over several stop lights. There's only five million of them on the way home anyway. XD

I know that sounds bad. But I'm not as bad as most people. It's true that most people suck at multitasking and driving and should not do it, and I'm sure some people read books and use their curling irons or some shit while driving, which is retarded. I never would do anything that would take my eyes off of the road or pull my attention for more than a few seconds. Unfortunately, most people can't or won't remember that the road is the most important thing.

Eating and driving is second nature to me, though if its something big I'll leave it be. But a lil cheeseburger or burrito? Its getting eaten. I'll talk on my cell, but of late I've preferred to avoid doing so until I'm out of the car. They have this law against texting and driving here and I'd prefer to respect it and not do anything that might resemble it, which dialing a phone number could be misconstrued as.

Mostly, I just listen to the radio. Not picky about the station so long as the playlist isn't too repetitive. I only need so much Lady Gaga and Nickelback, though I am a believer that you can't ever have too much Black Eyed Peas.

I drive and listen to the radio. Sometimes I listen to CDs, but my daily drive is really too short to bother with CDs. If I'm alone in the car, I'll sing somewhat loudly. If there are other people in the car, I'll sing quietly. I don't turn my phone on in the car and can barely even imagine trying to text while driving. If I need to contact someone while I'm in the car, I'll pull into a parking lot & park before calling/texting.

Eating fast food, though, happens a lot. I don't buy drive-through items that are messy or challenging to eat neatly (like tacos). Small burger, fries, & soda is more my style.
