News Flash: Hating on Halo got old a long time ago, get over it.


My only real beef with the game was the crappy retcon job Bungie did on the story. They can make a pretty good FPS, but they can't write a decent plot worth a damn. Way to contradict your own plot Bungie.

More or less it did for FPS what Ocarina of Time and Final Fantasy VII did for their respective genres and franchises:

Create a bunch of mouth-frothing idiots that have to assert that its one of the greatest of all time and will compare everything in the genre against it.

Halo is a fine series of games, it just has that kind of fan.

Not entirely sure a book by a Star Trek novelist qualifies as pure canon. I leave it to the developers themselves to decide the canon. We know this story doesn't end well, just like we knew Crisis Core didn't end happy, we just don't know exactly what all happened.

Figures you wouldn't have even looked at Fall of Reach. It's really quite good, with Ghosts of Onyx at a close 2nd. But even ignoring the novels, Reach screwed up game's canon big time too. What pissed me off most of all was the FF7 Crisis Core ending.

And fuck spoiler tags, if you don't know everyone dies you've either been living under a rock or have never even heard of Halo or Marathon. Now then, they basically throw Noble 6 into the same role as Zack in FF7, and I really did not care for that. Noble 6 > John 117, no contest. Oh but no, he refuses to get on the Pillar (which made sense actually, he had to clear them a path) but then wtf, they just leave him to die with all the other Spartans on Reach, even though they know it's a lost cause at this point. No, after the credits there's one final mission where you make your last stand against the covenant, same as in CC - you fight until you die and then the rest of the ending plays.

Yeah okay then. Just toss away a major asset to stall for time and bank all your hopes on ONE SPARTAN. So there should have been 5 Spartans left, but instead there's 4 (the game doesn't even show what happens to Jun for some reason, we only see the other 4 members of Noble die). John never shows up either. He's just mysteriously already on the PoA for some reason.

They did do a remake of Halo: CE's opening, but only like the 1st 5 seconds with Keyes talking to Cortana and then it goes to the credits. Yay.


It just feels like all the real effort was put into the MP aspect, and not enough into Campaign. I enjoy playing Reach most for it's MP, but I was honestly looking forward to seeing the official story from Bungie too. It's too bad they basically crapped on the original story they wrote. Plot holes & contradictions FTL.
