If you can find some kind of decent/fun exercise to do while at home, that'll help as well.
Dance Dance Revolution. $50 will get you a decent pad, and Stepmania will let you play any song you could possibly want.
As for eating, my rules are: avoid things that are bad for you; don't go hungry; don't overeat. I avoid things with trans fat, saturated fat, cholesterol, refined flours (whole wheat ftw), and pure sugar. Obviously one can make exceptions, the important thing is to have discipline. Some people say "Oh, it's just some ice cream, it'll be fine" but then they go and make their "exceptions" 3 or 4 times throughout the week, then splurge some more on the weekend. The best way not to sabotage yourself is to define clear limits beforehand. No goals = no focus. (This strategy can be used for other things, like fighting procrastination or making sure you don't skimp on the number of times you work out each week.)
Do you also cut out High Fructose Corn Syrup? That shit is worse than pure cane sugar! Soda is a huge culprit for having HFCS in it. Read the packages people! If most of the ingredients are words you can't pronounce or don't know wtf they are, walk away. Be aware of how many servings are in the package. It may look like a one package deal (noodle bowls, cans of soup, etc) but the nutritional info will tell you its really 2 or more. (Frozen pizza cracks me up. Look next time and see how big a slice is according to them and then look at that nutritional info and multiply by how many of THEIR slices you eat. We divide one into 8 pieces and my son eats SIX...and he says he's trying to cut down! HA!) And watch the salt! If you are a healthy adult, then you shouldn't be eating over 2000mgs of sodium a day. Look at the nutritional info on stuff and you'll be surprised at how much salt you eat in a day. Frozen, boxed, and canned foods are the absolute WORST for you. (As is most food eaten in restuarants.)

Yes, pure sugar is better for you than either "corn sugar" or fake sugars. The bonds between the sugars in corn sugar are much weaker than they are in natural sugar, meaning your body uses less energy to break them than they would breaking down natural sugar. Your overall net gain in energy is greater with corn sugar, meaning YOU R GEIN WEIGHT.

You bet I do. Like Huey says in Boondocks, HFCS is "the white man's poison." You can find that shit even in cheap spaghetti sauce. I've made a habit of going to the gym lately, so I don't like that sort of "empty calories." And I find the amount of soda restaurants will try to force down your throat to be utterly disturbing.
When I started college I made it a point to learn how many ounces to a cup, how many cups to a quart or gallon, etc so I could make better decisions in the supermarket (I was on a tight budget.) That really opened my eyes to the obsceneness of fast food soda sizes. I've seen people order 32 ounce plastic cups and down them entirely. That's a fucking milk carton's worth of soda. Easily an entire meal's worth of calories there (if you eat more than 3 times a day) without any of the nutrition.
Since weight is an issue for me, I stay away from fruit juices too though. They're far more nutritious, but they're still fairly high-calorie (takes a shitload of oranges to make a glass of orange juice.) "Don't drink your calories" is always great advice when trying to lose/maintain weight. I just keep a water bottle (refill at home) in my car so I have access to drinking water anywhere.
Speaking of ingredients, some people don't know they're ordered from most to least (I don't know if that's by weight or volume, but whatever.) That's an easy way to put red flags on food if you're bad at nutritional facts. Bad ingredients last = good, bad ingredients first = stay away!

Mountain Dew is my nemesis! Caffiene = THE DEVIL....totally can not have any caffiene but I LOOOOOOOOVE Mountain Dew Icees! I don't really drink them now but I did....but on occasion my son will have one and I do take a sip or two. /slapTGM
