I'll do all my cooking as I love to cook, takes me ages sometimes but it is gratifying specially when you cook for someone else too.
Oh thank god! You had me worried! Now remember when you cook, make at least a couple extra portions, one for leftovers and one to freeze so you don't have to cook if you are under the weather. You're on the right track so keep up the good work!

      Re: Eating habits, diets, etc

Well, seeing as how I just got booted out of the Marines for being overweight, I think I'll give this a try. (It's been a while since I've posted on these forums too. Haha.)

I learned a lot about dieting and nutrition while I was in the Marines, trying to lose weight.

      Your body needs food, frequently.

You are ALWAYS on a diet, what you eat, is your diet. Whether you have a good diet or a bad one depends on what you eat.

Genetics play a HUGE role in your weight loss, physical appearance, and energy throughout the day.

Those are just some little tips to know before you start a diet.

      Exercise is a MUST.

As for which diets work, there is one that was recommended to me by a friend of mine, and it's not really a diet, much more of a change of lifestyle. It's called "The Primal Blueprint". I suggest you check it out Balfree.

Just so you guys know: I'm not taking crash diets...

A diet is a eating habit, a lifestyle thing. I know this. I hate the concept of crash diets, they just make you feel horrible.

I figured you knew, Balfree. My clarification was for those jumping in to say "DIETS ARE TERRIBLE!" without taking into consideration that a person's diet is not the same as a capital D "Diet."

Not too sure if you were talking about my post, but The Primal Blueprint isn't a crash diet.

The Author thought about what the human body needs to produce the best amount of energy. He thought back to what early humans would eat. He suggest cutting out "frankenfoods". Things that did not exist at the beginning of human kind. Things like Pasta, Processed meats, sugar-rich foods. Human beings primarily ate root plants, nuts, fruits, berries, fish, and non-processed animal meat (this includes insects, but you don't have to eat bugs). He also recommends portion control.

ALSO, he suggests that you don't have to get up and run 15 miles every day, his "exercise" plan is usually long term, non-cardio movement, as in walking, hiking, casual bike riding. Also, sprint (full out short sprint at 100% effort) every once in a while. And, lift weights (heavy weights, not low weight, high rep) 3 times a week.

If you think about it, it does make sense.

This is why I said it's more about lifestyle.

              Over 50% of adult males and 40% of females in Japan smoke. They also have fairly strict schooling. I don't know how long the work week there is but anyway, it's mostly a cultural thing. By that I mean look at the Swiss as opposed to the U.S.;

You guys get an average of 1~2 weeks vacation at most starting jobs, where as the Swiss get I believe 2 months. Simply put, Americans are over-worked and over-stressed. It's amazing how damaging stress can be to your health. Look at the French too - all those fatty foods they eat, but how many overweight French people do you see? Exactly.

They did, they shipped all their jobs overseas to maximize profit and lowr prices of things. And now a big chunk of the working force has permanent vacations! \(^-^)/

The french drink red wine. This contains Reservatrol. Resveratrol - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. We need to drink less beer, and drink more red wine if we want to continue having high fat diets.

I prefer white wine but I can handle red.

Isn't straight up red grape juice better than the alcohol though? I mean wine is basically aged, fermented grape juice at it's core.

I used to be a "wine-o" and drink it all....but I was partial to sparkling wines. Wine's the only thing I miss with not drinking. Other than wine, I did love my Tequila but it made me squirrelly!

Try and find a Spirit to drink. If you really want to watch your health, try and find a drink that contains as little sugar as possible.

I prefer straight Absinthe, ever since it became legal.
