    Wut?

Oh yeah, the pork bun was yummy. Down with pork haters!
Don't you have to leave cows alone if you're Buddhist, though? Or was that Hindu? I forget.

I might be able to give up cow, but that means I'm going straight to turkey next.

Wasn't this guy denied a permit to do this twice now?

Also, lol @ Rush Douchebaugh for saying that people would find it offensive if a Hindu temple was built at Pearl Harbor.

I think it's both actually, pretty sure. And before anyone goes on about the Chinese and beef dishes, there are ugh... wtf is it called, Reformist I think? Anyway the more liberal Jews allow pork and other things that would make an Orthodox cringe (My Dad is jewish if anyone's wondering and I did have a bit of that in my upbringing though I myself chose to be an agnostic)

and WHAT THE .. lmfao why does anyone even listen to Limbaugh? Ugh. It's a good thing both he and Glen Beck are against homosexuality or we just might end up with a new anti-Christ. *shudders* And speaking of Beck dear lord he thinks he's MLK now God help America...

Damn the bloody f'ing Turks man, all this shit today is pretty much entirely the fault of Ottomans. Believe it or not there was once a time (centuries ago) when all 3 religions were more or less in harmony or at least tolerating each other in the Middle East, but oh no the fundamentalist Turks had to come in and just fuck that up. Denying Christians access eventually leading to the Crusades (not justifying those either, the Crusades were an atrocity and I almost lost it on a guy who said Christians have never done anything like Islamic extremists in an EB one day >_>) which the west is still paying for to this day.

@_@ and yet the big irony of it all is that they're a key player and "ally" in the region. Lovely, let's put our money on the guys who began this whole mess (well, the jihadi movement was begun in an Egyptian prison but anyway)

Ok wow that was a long rant... but yeah, hopefully whenever the economy recovers a lot of this bigotry will settle down. I don't for a second think it will go away entirely, at least not for some time (shit people still hate on Blacks and the Irish and it's been how long?) but it should quiet down.

Humanity, what a lovely lot we are.

          Re: Wave of Muslimphobia?

Groups of people will always find other groups of people to blame for the world's ills -- mostly because scapegoating someone else makes insecure people feel superior. When you get a power-grubbing member of clergy playing on his congregation's insecurities (and possibly lack of critical thinking skills), you get people frothing at the mouth about anyone who doesn't believe/act/look/think the same way they do.

I'm sure it's the same dynamic at work in many of the predominantly Islamic countries where people have such anti-American sentiments -- compounded there by the fact that such a high percentage of the lower economic classes are illiterate. If people are told by their religious leaders (often closely tied to political leaders) that they have to believe a certain way they'll likely follow right along -- especially if they are not exposed to alternative viewpoints. Keeping the lower classes illiterate is one way of limiting their access to opposing viewpoints. Keeping women uneducated helps keep them from questioning why they are relegated to second-class status.

This preacher guy in Gainesville turns my stomach. What he's advocating has no more to do with Christianity than the 9/11 attacks had to do with Islam. I'm sure Mr Preacher Man wouldn't be amused if someone decided to burn Bibles at his little Koran BBQ.

Extremism in any form is just plain bad. Fundamentalism in any religion is no exception.

            Re: Wave of Muslimphobia?

Thing about this preacher is that he's from a rather small and insignificant church. We're talking Westboro kind of small, too

And the reason they got big media attention? Well, President Obama and Hillary Clinton felt the need to weigh in, then celebrities like Angelina Jolie did as well and it just snowballed from there. Would the matter have escalated to a big massive issue this week if any of those people realized they had better things to concern themselves with?

            Probably not.

Could it have missed the ears of Muslims worldwide had they not gotten involved and this preacher just gotten the backpage at best?

Its entirely possible, these kinds of people happen every day and totally escape our notice.

Those in power or fame sometimes need to step back and realize they can give attention to the wrong people, that a person like this preacher - not unlike an internet troll - only gain power when you give them attention. And when you make someone not newswortht now newsworthy, well, naturally the media will get involved and take it to another level. And of course, we'll just scapegoat the media when the had no reason to look at this guy two weeks ago.

Now this twit has been given a larger soapbox. First the event is off, then its on again, now its delayed. He thinks burning books in Florida will change the building of a mosque in New York. While this Imam is also a dick with no tact for wanting to build that mosque where he wants to build it. He doesn't get why people are upset about that. He doesn't get the message that his building of the mosque near ground zero is not unlike how Christians would build churches where they can conquested Islam during the Crusades. Sure, the cardinals, missionaries and monks might have been nice people, but that doesn't change the fact that those churches were perceived as symbols of conquest and violence toward another people.

Is burning the Quran the way to send that message? Not really.

And, oh, lookie. Its "off" again for the preacher.

Florida pastor unclear about Quran burning - CNN.com

As for Donald Trump getting involved, well, business is business. If he can get them to move, he can get them to move. If he doesn't, oh well. He's a bit of a different player here. He's not drawing attention to people that don't deserve it and its just inevitable he draws attention to himself. Plus - unlike Hillary Clinton - he's a real resident of New York and feels its within the best interest of the city for the mosque to be built elsewhere. That's what a lot of people seem to feel.

And he's quite used to being a target. He's a love/hate personality. It was only a matter of time before he showed up.

A lot of people who don't live in NYC, from what I understand. BTW, are people STILL calling it a Mosque?

This is why when people ask me my religion I tell them I'm a Secular Humanist. One, they don't have a ready response for that, and usually it confuses them enough that they drop the subject.

After General Patreyus did, and even before that you can blame the media for this more than anyone else. The man has a following of 30-some odd people. This is just another case where if someone had had the good sense to just shut up and not make a big deal out of it, it would have gone by largely unnoticed.

But those days are long gone. There's almost no privacy anymore, with anything and everything that goes on winding up on the internet or television with a short time. Hurray for consequences!

Also just in case anyone's wondering, the burning has been called off at least for now.

Crazy until death, then celebrated as a genius. /nod /nod

Though, on the note of burning all religious scriptures, honestly, if that were to happen I doubt things in this world couldn't get much worse than it is with these religious ideals limiting society as a whole. But that could just be me being cyncical to religion as a whole from the few soapbox people. Honestly, its the soapbox people that can also influence the quiet ones as a whole, making something that probably is all well and good, into a crusade for w/e cause.

Needs less religion and more blood and honor!

Well, if you want to live in that fantasy land. Burn your home, burn all literature, burn all belongings, get rid of music, culture, art, science, education, knowledge of medicine and go back to live in a cave.

But you can't rub sticks together to make fire to keep warm, nor make tools to skin animals for clothing. That stuff came from people that worshiped a ball of fire in the sky as a god. All those things came from someone that believed in a god and they were terrible people.

Those terrible people also formed an oral tradtion, leading to a belief system, writing and books about gods. Those books containing scriptures all documented a worldwide flood, which science later confirmed. But you have to disregard those text and that science because it came from people that worshiped nature and invisible beings.

See, for us to live the you believe would be dignified and respectful would be to dismiss all knowledge. But that's not going to bring about respect or honesty or taking responsibility for one's actions. You won't know what those things are. This is because law and order happens to come from morality, which is a byproduct of religion.

Notice how most religions seem to think killing other people, committing adultery and stealing from others are bad? We didn't get there by cold, calculating logic. A belief in a god or spiritual pecking order helped establish order in various cultures. It established law. Additionally, it also inspired music, art, folklore and many other things.

Anyway, go enjoy your cave. No iPhone or internet for you. That stuff comes from people in "McFaith."
