He's really missing the key point, which Jon Stewart put absolutely perfectly the other night. Gah I can't find any good links, but he basically said that we shouldn't give a fuck what the terrorists think about what America does - because they will hate you and burn the flag anyway. Nothing you do will ever change these assholes opinions of you, that's why they're called radicals. Nor should anyone care what they think, because they're crazy.


So go ahead and just build the damn thing already. As I understand it, it's a freaking community center not unlike another one very close by in Manhattan if I'm not mistaken. It's open to anyone and should serve as a symbol of tolerance and religious freedom.


In short, people need to chill out and stop generalizing. Honestly if the economy wasn't in such a horrible shape, this probably wouldn't be nearly so awful as it is right now. 9/11 was quite a while ago, so where was all this hostility hiding up until now? Exactly.

Got my fill of info on this today.

Interestingly enough, there are 18 traslations of the Koran out there, two of them are explicitly hateful toward Christians and Jews while the other sixteen don't promote such concepts. I heard one muslim on the radio say if it was one of the two hateful versions of the Koran, he was fine with that precher burning it because he would, too.

Chances are, though, that this crazy preacher doesn't know there are 18 interpretations of the Koran into English. He probably thinks they're all like this, even though his experience in seminary and studying the Bible should tell him it has its fair share of interpretations. You know, that whole part where "Wives submit to your husbands" but everyone seems to forget the inverse directly follows and also applies? Heads of churches seem to have rather selective memory about that passage.

Anyway, regardless of which version it is, the man is doing nothing but poking a hornet's nest. Yes, the Imam is a dick for wanting to build that mosque practically on Ground Zero. He's an insensitive jerk. The solution, though, is not to start burning copies of the Koran and getting people even more wound up.

Here's one case where I think some sheep are about go looking for a new shepherd. He his not fulfilling his duties as a pastor, that's for sure.

The Torah is shared by Christianity, Judaism and Islam. They're the five books written by Moses (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy). They vary in translation and significance to each religion.

Islam is bad because it downgraded Christ to a prophet, instead acknowledging him as a son of God. Christianity is terrible because it thinks this fellow from Nazareth was telling the truth that God wanted Jews to accept a bunch of new-fangled doctrines. To top it off, Judism is HORRIBLE because it thinks the pork bun I'm munching on is somehow dirty.

I say we get rid of them all--convert everyone to Zen Buddhism and we can meditate on the sound of one hand clapping together!

The Torah is part of the Tanakh. My uncle has a fit of epic proportions when people get it wrong. lol Most non-Jewish people just refer to the books as the Torah though and one day the man is going to have a coronary. It's funny because we joke that we could get away with murder if we put him in a room with a bunch of people that are not practicing Jews and let them talk about the faith. Come back in a couple hours and no Uncle Joseph! lol (Just for disclosure, I do not practice the Jewish religion though part of my family does. Another part is Catholic and another is Protestant...ah family get togethers!)
