Biting the bullet and paying for a spot to park at the tune of $150/mo. My neighborhood is a hellhole and I hate the parking Nazi's in their stupid clown cars. I hate them so hard it's proly not heart-healthy for me. I justified not buying into Diamond parking because even if I get a ticket/towed once and a while it is still cheaper than $150/mo. But I can't keep on circling my neighborhood gathering speed as I get more and more frustrated at bar-flies taking spots. Then waking up 1hr early to move my car into a legal spot. Then wondering where the F I parked it or if I missed some paint and got towed or w/e. Also I've pigeon holed myself. It very difficult to go out and do things you want to do when you know you have to do the "where the F do I park after" dance.

Whelp, boss and a bunch of the other department heads along with a bunch of others who still work here are retiring. I is scared.

I've been a temp at my company for a few years and it's looking like I'm FINALLY getting hired... pay raise of about 10k/yr., added benefits, etc. Plus I get to move to a much nicer neighborhood because I'm working in a different office. And two of my good friends just HAPPEN to be wanting to move to the same neighborhood. Eff. Yes.

Paying money isn't great... but not being chained because of my car is pretty great. Might allow me to quit my dependence upon FFxi.

So today I started attacking the giant pile of old shit that fills at least 400 square feet of my home.

Barely made a dent in one room, then went downstairs. Checked the pantries and fridge; cleared out around 5 trash bags worth of stuff. Disgusting how old some of the stuff in there was-- I found a thing of Quaker Oatmeal that expired in 1996. We didn't even move in to this house until 2000. For that matter, that thing of Oatmeal could very well have followed us through three separate moves. I had to check inside it first to make sure nobody was hiding cash in there.

Found some equally disgusting samples in fridge and second pantry.

And I'm still not done even with that-- I haven't even glanced at the spice cabinet, there's the freezer, and then we have two freezers in the garage; one of them integrated in a fridge (which also needs to be checked; thankfully it's usually empty) and one icebox (which badly needs to be defrosted, but that's another story)

It's a good thing I started checking stuff before I made dinner. If I'd exposed any of this stuff to radiation I could've caused the destruction of humanity as we know it.

Kudos... I haven't built up enough courage to do that with mine. Glad I inherited that packrat gene.

Went to get my eyes checked today and the doctor gave me a sample pair of contacts since it's been ten years since I've worn them, and I'll be going back next week for a follow up, but HOLY DAMN, I CAN SEE AGAIN!!!

I've never worn contacts just because I worry I might jab my eye out or something . How are they?

Comfortable, once you get used to having them in. I was surprised that I still got them in easily, since it's been so long. I thought I'd struggle.

Really right now it's so weird being able to see in the shower (which needs cleaning, btw, I clean it about once monthly and it's definitely due) and also I'm just not used to seeing myself without glasses.

Damn, I'd love to be able to see again without glasses. A bit of a self confidence boost would go a long way in my books . (I prefer not having to wear glasses, as having them on makes me look.. bleh.)

Ah I knew it, fellow pack rats!

It's not so much being packrats as a mixture of not cleaning combined with valuable things getting mixed in with trash. Going through a box full of teeny tiny slips of paper is a pain in the ass; checking every damn one to see which are receipts for some random sandwich and which are billing statements is important, but hell if it doesn't wear on you.

W00t! Got "Phase One" (as I'm affectionately calling it) of my move completed. Still plenty of unpacking to be done, but the main thing that makes me happy is that I got all of my stuff up these goddamn stairs and into the building. Unpacking can be done over time. Preferably a time when I'm not so fucking tired from taking two flights of stairs 15 times in a day.

Phase One: Old Apartment ---> New Apartment
Phase Two: Dad brings the rest of my stuff from Pennsylvania ---> New Apartment.

Also, I managed to locate a wireless network so that in the week while I'm waiting for the tech to get here and hook up my own, I can still bug you guys. Aren't you thrilled?

I successfully did not kill anyone while running errands in the heat today. But man, did I want to. Also, I totally snagged a Questionable Content Bearmonster Tee Shirt and a Doctor Who TARDIS tee shirt from Comicon without even being there. (Thanks, local friend who just happened to be going!)

Of course he was all "Are you sure you want these in Medium? Those are going to be tight on you." And I am like "I am gay, and enjoy my tees to fit thusly!" To which he could not honestly refute, having spent time in my company in similar attire.
