Here's the problem with ignoring a protocol. Let's say they did that for the very first time for this call, and after they left the accused hurt the accuser worse, possibly even causing death. What do you think would happen to that police officer?

I agree with you completely. Something needs to be done about those murderous 73y/o grannies out there that slap their children for talking back to them. Or next thing you know, Granny has a shotgun and is chasing Lil Ashely out into the front lawn and suddenly its a episode of COPS and at least SOME white male in the neighborhood wil have his shirt off and be smoking a cigarette. AT LEAST ONE.

I just have to say, I'm glad the cops protected their jobs; but honestly? You have to have a little faith. That's the tough part. Would I like to be the cop sitting there in court watching a73 year old woman get arraigned on charges of domestic violence. Yeah, I wanna be that guy. I want to go into the locker room later and have the other dudes all say to me, "So Kage, my Gramma makes a mean minced meat pie. She beats the dough up and everything on it. Are you gonna arrest her too?"

So your arguement is 73 yo grandmothers can't kill someone?

Now granted she was not 73 years old at the time, but being old does not make one unable to deliver violence upon others. Who is to say if the police did not take her away at the time, she did not come back at the grandaughter with a knife or gun. The point is the police did their job as they should per the law, its the judge who is to make the ultimate call on what happens after.

Basically from the way they told it on the news, the future son-in-law either said or did something disrespectful to the father-in-law and the father-in-law bludgeoned him to death and then beheaded him with an axe. (I'm not really comparing this to the story, but just saying that it could've been alot worse.)

Yes, I am, considering that child is an adult. They both are legally protected from assault and battery. Slapping an adult daughter is no different than slapping a wife.

They do not always have the right to choose how to apply the law.

Grandma hit an adult member of her family. That is domestic assault. The police were called. The law in the area says that they must arrest the perpetrator. They are not to make a judgment call. That is the purview of the judge later.

Check the net bra; there's several more news stories where the Chief of Police in that county stated specifically that his police officers are given ability to make judgment calls on situations and not arrest if the situation does not deem necessary. In fact, that's a normal protocol most everywhere. Which is why I mentioned, in states such as AR, they sure do take things (everything) to the letter; they are cerebral in that state. But let conviction and everything else take a backseat, wdu.

Again: clear cut case of not using common sense.

Everyone skipped the part where I got jumped and the cops did nothing to the dudes who jumped me, lol.

At that point in time, the cop is judge and the jury. It's up to him(or her) to make the decision to arrest. Even if 1 party wanted to press charges, the cop will just write a report, and send it to a judge and doesn't have to make an arrest.

This is always depending on the cop. My bestfriends bro is probably one of the most laziest cops I know.. but from what I hear, paperwork is no fun.

I still don't think one little slap in the face in a (presumably) isolated incident warrants an assault charge. What are we, 5 years old? "WAAAAAH!!! SHE HIT ME!" She's got a red cheek at best, granny could actually be seriously hurt.

Thing is, generally I'd agree with you-- people should be able to come to blows every now and then without facing jail time. But then, if you can get in one fight and have that be deemed 'ok', and another deemed criminal, you start to get into very murky water, legally speaking.

Then again, I'm the sort of guy who sees no reason duels should be illegal, as long as they have an impartial referee.

I think in the end, the judge may say that they both need to grow up and throw it out. It's a waste of time and energy.
