I can never and will never defend or justify rape and incest. Just because you are free to do it and no one seems to be hurt from doing so, does not mean it's right and good and glorious. There are man's laws... and there are nature's laws. This breaks both, imHo.

First, neither of us is going to convince the other (especially since you're wrong).

Second, given the number of births that happen, 1 in 20 is not as trivial a number as it sounds. 1 in 20 births is a question of when. As a matter of comparison, the current disease it seems like every damn child has now is autism. A disorder that affects 'about 1–2 per 1,000.' Or to put it another way, I would like you to give me every 20th dollar you make from the time you're 20 until you're 40. It's only one in 20 right?

Third, incest is grouped with assisted suicide, suicide and a number of other crimes that Society deems wrong no matter what the circumstances. These laws grew out of various needs before they were settled on in a final way such that the state does not need to make moral judgements in applying them. As such all incest became illegal no mater who, the relation or genders involved. Oh, and before you bring it up, no homosexuality has never been treated to the same level.

I can see where everyone is coming from on this point. On the one hand, it's true that albeit being morally wrong, this type of incest isn't illegal, nor can it be MADE illegal since both individuals are of a mature age. As for bringing a child into the world, well I feel sorry for that child because for one, he/she will more than likely be born with some sort of birth defect/down syndrome, and two, the trauma he/she will suffer upon losing his/her mother, and three, the additional trauma of being known he/she was born out of an incestual relationship.

1- Probably, yes.
2- I'm not saying it's insignificant. I'm saying that there are far worse things which have a far higher probabilty of happening, but we don't go all VEHM to end suffering.
3- Except society is becoming far more accepting of Assisted Suicide, and we don't punish people for Suicide anymore.

I'm not advocating it. Christ, I know you haven't seen my family, but I'm in no hurry to force people into inbreeding. I'm just saying that it's not as harmful as it's portrayed as, and that even the level of harm it does have isn't much higher than all relationships, and even then that harm isn't always present.
