Violent Game Law Goes To Supreme Court - DS News at IGN

Can't believe it seriously took five years for this to get this far along, but then again, that will make it all the more hilarious when this gets deemed unconstitutional faster than most things that show up there.

Current judges on the court tend to rule strongly in favor of the First Amendment no matter what, so I don't think this one's got a chance, no matter how much "to protect the children" is thrown around.

Parent your own damn kids, teenagers working retail can't do it for you. You have to be a mental midget not to be able to control the media intake of your children at home.

Do not give your kids their own TV - have one TV the family has to share.
Do not given them their own computer - Only let them on the one you can see.

And I swear if I ever have a daughter, when she turns 16, she gets a choice - cell phone or a car. She will not have both.

Teenage girl driving + cell phone = death on wheels. Thankfully, they're starting to make laws to prevent this.

I will be the most oppressive, horrible parent ever

Thats just sad. Parents should take responsibility for their children, and know what could cause an issue.

Besides, any game thats Teen plus, the store should ask you for your ID or your parents ID if you are too young.

This does not sound to bad, if it was only applied to M rated games.

Easy way for stores to cover their ass too, when an adult buys a M rated game, have them sign the store copy of the receipt. Then make it enforceable (like if a cop found a 12yo smoking) to be able to do the same with a kid playing a M rated game. If the game store can show the parents signature on the receipt, then the parent gets hit with the fine, if the store cant prove it (aka they sold it right to the kid) they get hit with the fine.

I know this would not be the fix all end all, but I know it would at least deter more shop employees and parents.

There is this kid that comes in my store all the time with his grandparents (mainly his GF) I have stressed to him many times about the issue, but he keeps buying this kid M rated stuff. This kid cant be more then 10, and when he comes in the store, he asks me "what new games came out where you can kill people" or he will say things like "oh you cant kill people, thats boring" Every time this kid comes in my store, I get really creeped out.

Because the state should decide what kids are allowed to read, watch, and play, not their guardians.

What if the state was able to decide what music your parents got to listen to?

Because The Beatles was "the devil's music" back in the day, was it not?

Because you know, when I think of Satan, I think of Paul McCartney.

sorry but when you have 8-10 year old kids coming to you and saying "oh you cant kill people, thats boring" ........something needs to be done -.- because what we currently have is not working.

I cringe every time I sell a game to that kid's grandfather or mother.... or who ever he is with at the time, just to watch them hand it over to the kid.......In fact the past two times he has come in the store, I avoided him and had the other person check them out.... because I can not express how much that kid really creeps me out.

If he truly bugs you that much, tell your manager. Stores have the right to refuse to sell products to customers on an individual basis. If your manager doesn't mind, and his guardians don't mind, it's none of your business.

If I'm in a store and see some little kid trying to wheedle their parent into buying them a M rated game, I speak up. This happened recently with Heavy Rains release. The mother was going to buy it and I stepped in. The kid, who looked 11, got ticked and told me I didn't know anything about games while trying to explain the game to his mom. I explained to the mom how big of a geek I am, pulled out my iPhone and showed her some Internet articles about the game, and they left without buying it after that. Of course, by the time I had convinced her, she looked at me like I was some type of aberration. /sigh Its no wonder most of my older friends are male and geeks.

Symptom of the disease. Most parents don't want the hassle of raising their own kids anymore. School teachers are there more as disciplinarians now than as actual teachers. Parents depend on schools to discipline their kids. Half the time the kids don't care that they're failing or getting put in ISS because their parents don't give a shit either.

In a somewhat similar case, there's a county in California that's talking about taking the toys out of Happy Meals at McDonald's because that's why kids go there and that's why they're fat.

But then they'll start going somewhere where the food tastes good, and they'll get even fatter.

That said I actually support the Governator on this. Primarily because of irresponsibility on behalf of parents. I know I'm not the only here who's sick of hearing little kids screaming over XBL.

But there's just as much violence in the cartoons they watch everyday. And don't give me that "Well there's no blood in them." BS cause violence is violence.

It's asinine to set an age limit on buying a videogame like it's harmful to your body like cigarettes or alcohol.

Plus.. Who is Arnold to determine what's too violent for youth and a bad influence when he was smoking pot and making movies with occult symbolism and violence. Give me a break.
