  • In honor or Earth Day 2010.

    [nomedia="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eScDfYzMEEw"]YouTube- George Carlin - Saving the Planet[/nomedia]

Also, on a special note now scientists are saying there's too much oxygen in the atmosphere, that bottled water is bad for us and next we'll hear that down is up and up is down. The sky is always falling with these scientists.

    We're a blip, that's all we are.

Additionally, today Obama and Joe Biden took three private jets to New York from two separate airports to two separate airports. All air traffic stops within a certain range of these flights and flights are delayed until they take off or land from a certain range. This means planes are left on the runway, idling and wasting fuel. This while people have been stuck in America for a week longer than they planned because of that volcano.

Very efficient time and energy consumption, and all to tell us that yet again the sky is falling, just this time its falling on Wall Street.

Technically, there is supposed to be a second plane, a decoy, a security measure to help the president not get shot out of the sky, but our green VP felt the need to go off on his own. Then again, his job is to be a moron so Obama can look smarter. Basically what Dan Quayle's job was to Bush Sr.

If Biden's job was that important, though, there would have been a fourth plane. Maybe he's an additional decoy.

Um, yes? This is pretty fucking obvious.

I haven't heard of this, but it's entirely possible. An excess of CO2 does not preclude an excess of O2 as well.

Holy fuck! America's Head of State and second in line are actually doing something?

Because lead and fluoride in tap water is just as good for us? Neither have killed me yet, but I'm not supposed to swallow toothpaste according to the FDA. They told bottled/purified water was better for us for years and years and years. Now its bad. How were you ahead of the curve there?

Simply put - damned if you do and damned if you don't. This just "too much oxygen" thing just sprung up recently, though. Ultimately, I agree with Carlin - I think the Earth doesn't need our help. Sure, let's be a little cleaner about the environment, but I'm not arrogant enough to believe our science is so superior to outsmart billions of years of the Earth's existence.

I think a lot of this is environmental stuff is just about who profits and what gets controlled, not about saving the environment. Because if it were about saving the environment, I think we'd be doing better for all these changes we make, not steadily worse which seems to always be the case.

Doing what they always do, making sure the government gets more power it doesn't need and is too inept to wield.

It's mostly cause the plastic from what I read in my Men's Health. But who cares? What doesn't kill you these days? Population control maybe? Just sayin'.

Let's go cut down more trees!!

Does anyone remember a few years back when all these celebs, U2, Sting, Madonna, just to name a few, went overseas to do a "save the environment" concert?

Don't the cars/busses/planes that took them there help contribute to the pollution of the earth? lol

Have to say that Biden is my favorite VP ever. The man has no inner voice, so you know everything he says is what he's really thinking. There aren't enough votes in the world to buy that kind of honesty.

As Sarah Palin has proven, though, honesty and passion don't have to account for intelligence. Biden doesn't buy votes anyway, that's Obama's job.

Don't forget Al Gore's personal jet.

I mean, really, the sky is falling with this guy, so why doesn't he just bike to his little lectures? He looks like he could use the exercise.

Because he's a liberal, so clearly he's trying to kill us all.

If they kill us all they can't tax us, that's not a good deal for them

It's the plastics from the bottles getting into the water you're drinking that's 'dangerous', not the actual water itself. Ever noticed how something in a can tastes different from something in a bottle tastes different from something in a glass? The container contaminates whatever's inside of it, especially if it's in there too long. That said, the risk is minuscule at best but the media (not scientists) like to blow things out of proportion.

Most scientists also agree with Carlin. Ultimately environmentalism isn't about saving the Earth, it's about saving ourselves. But going around asking people to 'save humanity' doesn't sound as good at 'protecting the earth' since chances are anyone with enough intelligence to care is already too jaded to want to save the majority of humanity.

Also, I know it's not really factual or anything, but there was a mini-series on I think Discovery a few years back which showed what would happen to the earth after all humanity was gone. In the end, life moved on, mankind's marks on the planet were washed away and in a few thousand millenniums or so, Squids would be the next dominant life form on earth. It was fairly lolworthy but totally interesting.

Yesterday my company just had it's annual earth day event. This event consisted of setting up two tables covered in pamphlets and flyers, posters telling people to "think before they print" and "not waste paper) and a fake tree where people would write their names and what they did for the environment on a (recycled) paper leaf and stick it on the tree to be entered into a raffle.

I lol'd at the many ironies of this event.

Oh, and i think we plant a tree or something somewhere, so that's a good thing...in about 20 years or so...right?

That was it! Yea, more or less it just said what would happen to the earth without us, and more or less she would get along just fine. It's our own asses we should be watching out for, but there's not enough money to be made with peace and harmony and all that crap.

Enivronmental activists are going about it all the wrong way. The most you promote environmentalism, but more resources you have to use to do it. Kinda counter productive, imo. Worldwide enviromental activism is dumb, the movement needs to remain grassroots within individual communities. With information being so global and immediate, tranditional seminars and information sessions are all but useless.

People serious about environmentalism will change their every day lives and will promote it within their local communities.
