May 30, 2009 — This is an arrangement that I did for my wedding. Sorry to make you watch a boring wedding video, and unfortunately the optimal angle for the ceremony left the string quartet and piano out of the shot. I just thought that keeping the video was better than a blank screen. You can almost see the cellist though!
I arranged or composed all of the music for my wedding, which was a big goal of mine. I was lucky to get really top notch musicians as well (the pianist was 2nd or 3rd in the Van Cliburn, and the cellist is my good friend Buffi Jacobs who plays with the Polyphonic Spree!) .
These two mini-arrangements reveal my true inner-nerd. But it's OK, because I'm lucky enough to have an awesome wife who is as much a video game nerd as I am. One of our favorite series is Final Fantasy, and Nobuo Uematsu's music for the series has always been fantastic. I have always loved the prelude music to every FF game, and I thought it would sound amazing on a piano (and it did!).
For her bridal march, Kelly told me she wanted something big and exciting to bring her in, so I realized the Postlude music from FF would be a perfect, dramatic fit. Ironically, the 2nd piece was also used as wedding music in the series sometimes. Yes, we are nerds. But hey, I play in a string quartet myself, and I've played Star Wars music at someone's wedding once, so it could be worse, haha!
