T'wasn't me. Obviously. My mother (thank god) lives 1100 miles away from me and wouldn't visit even if I lived next door.
And the most cleaning my apartment needs right now is the kitchen, but that's my roommate's mess, so it's going to stay there. Because I am not these bitches' mothers, so I am not cleaning up behind them.
Went to Best Buy today and saw iPads on display, played around with some of them for a bit.
Its actually smaller than I expected, but it could also be a total replacement for a desktop, considering it serves almost all the functions of one.
Only question I have is if there's a little bay to charge it in that could be like a monitor mount. I could just stick my USB Keyboard on this thing and be ready to do word processing, couldn't I?
Games on it are still a joke, I saw one of EA's basketball game's running on it. It reminded me of the NCAA Final Four game on SNES. That's not a good thing.

Except that you can't add a USB printer. Or keyboard. Or mouse. Or audio better then an iPod. Or download your pictures to it from your digital camera. Or install anything you want on it. Or change the OS, or choose not to upgrade the OS.
But ya, other then the fact that it functions completely different from a general purpose computer, mainly because it's not, it could totally be one. It's not a computer, and it wasn't designed as one. It is an appliance.

I asked if I could hook up a keyboard - because, you know - the specs say USB 2.0 functionality, so its not absurd to assume a keyboard could be applied to it.
Simple "no" would have sufficed.
Also, way to assume I need all the functionality of PC. I browse the internet, I listen to audio and watch video, I blog and do some mild Paint/Picasa-level image editing from time to time to make avatars and banners. And word-processing. Somehow, I don't think these things are beyond the iPad's scope.
If I want to print something really bad, I can just go to Kinko's. I'm not some twit who thinks every picture they take on their digital camera is worth sharing. If I'm holding a camera at all, I'm still gonna go with analog, thanks. I'm not going to get mad that I can't transfer my images from that - its analog. I can be an audiophile if I really want to be one, I've done audio editing and production. I just don't care that much about audio quality. I'm not looking for THX here.
"total desktop replacement" means different things to different people.
I am with Mhurron on this one, the iPad is an appliance/toy, nothing more. It doesn't aim to replace the desktop or laptop, it just aims to replace your ebook reader. That fact that it HAS some desktop functions like word processing is a bonus, imo.

My iPad replaced my laptop but not entirely. About twice a week I'll boot up the laptop for a short period for something the iPad can't do. To be honest, I thought it would be more often considering thie iPads limitations. The biggest issue for me is that the iPad does not do flash. Those are usually the reasons I boot up my laptop.
Kitten, I bought the Bluetooth keyboard from Apple. BUT I have used it once and just for a "let's see this sucker in action" moment. I use the software keyboard all the time. It's quck and intuitive and I have no problem even with my little hands. I hold it with 4 fingers on each side and type with my thumbs. I'm not lightening quick but I get the job done fairly quickly. I do not have the adapter yet so I can not comment about connecting another keyboard to it.
I also want to transfer some pictures to it eventually and there are apps like Paint and Photoshop available, and some free ones are even awesome.
I stream Netflix movies and the audio is fine. There is a headphone jack but I've never used it. I just watched Easier with Practice last night and I think I'll watch Willy Wonka tonight.
There is a great dock that you can use as a stand but I'm watching the aftermarket for plugs, docks, and covers. I've fed the "beast" enough money. lol There is also a keyboard with attached dock, if I remember correctly. I do HIGHLY recommend getting a Zagg screen protector though. They are absolutely amazing.
I use mine mostly for when I'm relaxing in bed or on the couch. Our TV is rarely on so it becomes my entertainment. lol It has truly become an extension of my body as I don't go anywhere without it anymore.

God I hate my periods. You think passing a clot through a vagina is bad? Try it with a penis.

No they don't. They say requires USB2 functionality on the computer you already have. This is to install apps, update the OS and sync contacts. You can't do any of that without iTunes, which means you have to have a Mac or Windows desktop, which means this is not intended and pretty much can not be used as a desktop replacement.

I thought this was all done on the device itself without the need for the desktop. Last I heard, you only needed a desktop to activate it, which they can do for you at the store you purchase it from.
