Re: DEAR BRITONS OF FFXIO
Nice.
I need some education though. I understand the pence and the pound. I had no clue you guys have a penny. What's it worth in relation to the pence."All of the biggest technological inventions created by man - the airplane, the automobile, the computer - says little about his intelligence, but speaks volumes about his laziness." - Mark Kennedy

Pound sterling - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Apparently it was in '71.
As for the design, neat.

Re: DEAR BRITONS OF FFXIO
Is the penny becoming as useless over there as it is here? Can you buy anything with just 1?"All of the biggest technological inventions created by man - the airplane, the automobile, the computer - says little about his intelligence, but speaks volumes about his laziness." - Mark Kennedy

Re: DEAR BRITONS OF FFXIO
I keep hearing rumors that they're going to discontinue the penny here, since its not economically viable to continue produce it. Only reason that I think they do still make it is that people get nostalgic and don't want them to be gone.I RNG 75 I WAR 37 I NIN 38 I SAM 50 I Woodworking 92+2

1- Replace Lincoln as America's Favorite President
2- Retroactively cancel the Emancipation Proclamation and bring blacks back into slavery
3- Give fat kickbacks to his corporate sponsors by allowing them to shave up to 4 cents off purchases through an 'automatic round up' law; while SIMULTANEOUSLY using the same money to raise taxes every time you buy even AMERICAN CORN AND POTATOES.
Replacing the penny seems perfectly rational, if you're a communist.

Re: DEAR BRITONS OF FFXIO
Actually kinda figure 3 is plausible. Adding a couple pennies for most things isn't going to affect the consumer much, but the producers could see a pretty big loss in revenue if everything was rounded down by a few cents for every item. Especially the little stuff where the profit is made from selling lots of units.
Ofcourse you could also make an argument for trying to phase out paper money altogether.I RNG 75 I WAR 37 I NIN 38 I SAM 50 I Woodworking 92+2

Re: DEAR BRITONS OF FFXIO
Actually, one or two other countries have phased out their penny (equivalents) and switched to full time nickles. They just round up and down; typically 2 cents is free for the consumer, 3, 4, and 5 are to the benefit of the retailer. It's not like we don't deal in mils anymore (gas prices being the most obvious example), but it's not really a problem with the penny. Removing the penny is just bringing that up one.
Whatever benefits you get from rounding up/down are pretty irrelevant though compared to the overall benefit of removing currency as useless as the penny from circulation. Having the price always round up and putting the rest of the money into taxes would still be a net gain for the population at large-- the time saved by not dealing with pennies would add up at retailers, let alone at banks, mints, and so on.
EDIT: See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Efforts..._United_States . Personally, I'd like to see the 50 cent piece revived, as well as one, two, and five dollar coins brought into common use.Last edited by Feba; 04-05-2010, 05:38 PM.
