    men.

I have pretty goddamn light facial hair, but still heavy enough that it must be dealt with. I have been using one of those trimmer things that is more designed for eyebrows and sideburns, but it is dying, and I figure a better alternative must be found.

Shaving implement recommendations thread gogo prz.

also if you recommend a razor explain to me how the fuck I'm supposed to do it prz. feba has no father figure to guide him in this quest.

I have never used anything electric, and razors work pretty well for me. If anybody would like to recommend or explain how the electric stuff works, that would be nice.

Razor blades are expensive, but they last for about a month each. Find a good shaving cream, and cover whatever you want to shave in it. Then put razor to face and pull down. Depending on your hair density, you may need to pull off sooner and rinse the blade. I usually start at my sideburns and work my way across my cheeks because the hair there is pretty thin and sparse. You know when the blade is dulling when it feels like rubbing hot sand paper across your face.

Just don't shave against the grain unless you know you wont react poorly. Most people break out with razor burn which resembles acne.

Oh, and make sure you pick a manly set. One time I had to shave with a blade designed for a girl's legs and it felt like I was ripping my skin off.

I've tried both, and it could be that maybe the only good electric ones are expensive but I've never been pleased with electric razors. My dad bought a Norelco back when they were spamming the TV with commercials all those years ago and it was pretty shitty, I remember him cursing in spanish about having to waste time to return it. I generally just stick to basic razors. If you live with other people make sure to let them know not to use your razors or just store them out of sight. Even the women, if they have to shave and they ran out of their own razors I've seen them be lazy and resort to stealing some of my own. Less of a hygiene thing and more of a "I don't want you to accidentally cut yourself and leave specs of blood on my razor".

I've been pretty lazy about shaving since I quit my tutoring job in may, so when I shave my beard now it tends to be pretty thick, and I'll have to rinse the razor after each pass with it since it'll have hair on it. I generally go from the tip of my chin down the neck, hit the same spot once or twice more prolly to make sure it's clean, move on to next area, etc. I have one of those barber razors for touching up eyebrows, sideburns, etc so I dunno if it's common practice to use the other razors for that.

Well my husband and son swear by the 3 blade regular razors. But my son has went over to the dark side recently and bought an electric razor, a Braun. I have bought several different model Norelcos for both of them over the years but they've hated all of them so I'd steer clear of that brand. My son took Christmas money and was going to buy one of those new Norelco's:

but went with the Braun instead because these models are pretty darn expensive. I believe this is the Braun model he bought and he absolutely loves it. He said that it shaves him just as close as his razor. It's also a wet/dry razor which he likes.

        [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Braun-3-370-Mens-Shaver/dp/B0006ZM4LC/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=hpc&qid=1262421005&sr=1-5]Amazon.com: Braun Series 3 370 Men's Shaver: Health & Personal Care[/ame]

If you like I can ask him for the exact model number. And yes I'm a woman in your "men only" thread, get over it. Now you have girl cooties!!

Same electric boat for me. They just don't seem to do the same quality job as a razor does. Strict fan of the 3 blade razor here.

You will spend money to shave. You will spend money to cut yourself. It sucks. Speaking of cutting yourself: If anybody laughs, so the hell what. Self-conscious fool won't admit to ever having nicked his sack or that he nearly nipped his own tip with a straight blade. If it's a girl just get a very close in look at her upper lip (lean in close), mention that you'll bring her a disposable tomorrow, turn around and walk away.

I said no girls allowed, not men only. Grandmas are automatically not girls, you're cool sorry. But keep your goddamn cooties OUT.

Thanks for the suggestions. I actually just remembered that Gillette shipped me something for my 18th birthday, some kit with a Fusion (4 blades plus ONE PRECISION HOLY CRAP FIVE BLADES etc.), 'hydragel', and body wash/shampoo.

I'm just wondering if it's really worth going with a real razor, as again, my facial hair is so goddamn light. Even when I let it go for a few weeks, it doesn't get thick at all, more like a few random hairs on my chin and cheeks and some fuzz under my nose. If I'm cutting it every day or every other day, it seems even more pointless to get lathered up and shave for a few stray hairs starting to poke out.

Well i use Gillette Mach 3 razor (3 blades) I find it easier not to shave every day but let a good amount of stubble grow, I cut myself less then.

How to shave well i tought myself as was in boarding school but...

rinse face with hot water to open the pores, apply decent layer shaveing foam / cream. You should always shave sides down, throat and chin up. just be gentle and you may need to run over a few times. Afterwards splash face with cold water to seal pores stop any cuts bleeding then apply a mositurising gel to cool down the skin which can be affected by razor burn.

The problem about electric razors is its not a clean cut and can spread infections like acne and other fascial pollocks aroudn your face as theirs no water / disinfectant that you get in shaving cream / rinsing face.

I never got on with electric so i have always wet shaved, but its the best shave you can get.

Ignore all these fancy wet shave razors with batteries, their useless, just get a mach 3 or any disposable with 3 blades (Bic do one)

I just use Gilette Mach 3. I used to roll with electric razors, but never liked how they ripped my whiskers out instead of shaving them off. plus it made it weird for the occasional instances of acne that I would have. You get a closer shave with a straight razor, too, go electric and you'll always have stubble before the day is out. Straight razor would leave you OK for a couple days before stubble resurfaced

I've found electric razors don't work too well for me. The main thing I use them for now is as a beard trimmer for when I need to go from the mountain man look back to a clean-shaven respectable looking person.
For the day to day I just use a normal off-brand two-bladed razor.

Dak's right about finding good shaving cream. I tried a different brand for a travel-kit once. It was fucking terrible. Colgate Regular has done just fine for me.

                      Shaving brush.

I'll shave using soap if I have to, as long as I have a shaving brush it's all good. Oh and warm water.

Electric razors are fantastically convenient. Great for those days where you're late ... because you slept in.

Or to shave just before you go out again in an evening, but mainly when you're late.

And it's good to put something on your face after you shave if you have sensitive skin. I'm using the same Suave Aloe with cucumber that I've been using for the past a million years and it's worked really well.

My husband and son HATE the 5 blade concoction. I bought it thinking that if 3 was good then 5 was fantastic. BZZZZT!!! WRONG! They went back to the 3 blades after that fiasco.

Dak is right, an after shave lotion is really good. If your skin is sensitive do NOT get the ones with a scent in it. Lots of cologne makers make them with scents and, according to my son's sensitive skin, THAT SHIT BURNS! lol We have Banana Boat Aloe After Sun Lotion here. We use it for a variety of things such as sunburn, after shaving, and for fresh tattoos. lol Works like a dream!
