The first time I saw an Alligator Snapping turtle was when I was 6 and lived in New England. My friend Mike and I always caught turtles and frogs and whatnot so his mom told us there was a turtle by the pond. We hopped on our bikes with training wheels and took off.. We get there and what we thought was going to be a little turtle wasn't. It was this huge ass turtle with huge ass spikes. I was 6, and it came up to my chest. We're we scared? NO.. we beat it on the shell with sticks as we screamed at it. And I kid you not.. it roared or something at us. Childhood memories.. ah..

My b/f had a turtle that had the checkerboard pattern on its shell and we called him Checkers.
