Help with whites..

No not people.. clothing.. A few of my whites were ruined in my friends wash and now they're dingy looking and not white. I tried soaking them in bleach and washing them over and over but nothing helps. Also I sweat so easy.. so there's pit stains on a lot of them. I heard ammonia works good and so now I am soaking one shirt in ammonia to see if it works.

If it's not white anymore it'll never be white again, and bleach is what ruins clothes and makes your whites that dingy yellow color. It's supposed to be diluted in water and used with normal detergent. There's dozens of different kinds of bleach to choose from these days, it's amazing, but because it's also used in other cleaning chores, as well as being and all around awesome way of ruining somebody's eyesight, it doesn't come completely prepared for use with clothing.

f your antiperspirant isn't working properly, causing pit stains, then it would be best to find a stronger brand. You should seek out the kind that are specially formulated not to cause color loss in the pits of colored clothes, as well.

Pit stains are caused by the aluminum in your deodorant actually.. And I sweat hard.. no antiperspirant is strong enough!!!

Certain antiperspirants work best when applied at night, it seems, when you're not sweating your butt off, giving it the opportunity to fill your pores. It would think it's something that all antiperspirants could do, but I'm not completely sure.

Sorry, just got home recently so haven't had the time to look at the forums for a few days. Getting whites white again really depends on the fabric. Some synthetics just can't be bleached white again no matter what. You can let the shirt(s) sit in a 75% water and 25% bleach solution for 15 minutes. Swish them around every 5 minutes. This should whiten the shirts. Make sure you wash them afterwards.

Whenever you use bleach to get a spot stain out make sure you dilute the bleach 50/50 with water at the very least. Bleach is very harsh on fabrics and weakens them so using it full force is not advised. What I'll do is take a white towel and put it under the stain and then I take some 50/50 bleach solution and pat it on the stain. I usually use a good quality white paper towel to do this.

Armpit stains can be buggers. I usually use a paste that I make out of hydrogen peroxide, water, and baking soda (equal parts of each). Scrub it in with an old toothbrush and let it sit for 15 minutes. Also warm/hot water can "set" a stain so use cold water. Rinse after 15 minutes and see if you need to apply it again. Another combination is vinegar, water, and baking soda doing it the same way.

Ugh, I don't need to be reminded about my laundry experience today.

I got this red Rolling Stone T-shirt a few weeks back. Got it because it had U2 on the shirt (they have a series of shirts with old magazine covers). I washed it separate from my whites a few time and the first time I thought I was safe all my socks and underwear turned pink.

I did the laundry today, whites and colors mixed together because I was in hurry but I left the red T-shirt out. Socks and underwear turned pink, but not so severely (I can manage a few days before replacing them this time).So not only has the dyes in that red shirt not run its course, the dyes are now embedded in shirts that appear to be black, beige and green and run loose when I wash them.

I really regret getting that shirt now. U2 owes me new socks and underwear. I should have gotten the Johnny Cash shirt instead, it was (obviously) black.

Honest to god I've washed these shorts over 9000 times and it still smells of skank.

You can buy some products that are meant to specialise in stain removal and some that also are meant to help with whites. I use one called "Vanish oxy action" on my nursing tunics and they have served me well and stayed white for the past year. Some clothes washing products really aren't good with whites and will give your clothes that "chewing gum grey" look as my mum calls it.
I'm seeing my mum tomorrow so I'll probe her for some tips too.
Also the type of water harshness also depends on the success of laundry. Packet advice isnt always reliable if you live in a hard or soft water area then you may need to use slightly more or less than advised.

Oh another thing you can do with your laundry is wash jeans and t-shirts inside out it helps keep the clolour in your jeans for longer too and they wont fade as much.I also recommend ironing inside out too especially clothes with elaborate printing on them. With newer clothes the first few washes I use a thing called a clolour catcher that has greatly reduced the ammounts that run into my clothes.
