  • Your internet worst fear.

Simply put, the biggest fear you have solely because the internet exists, which you never would've encountered otherwise.

Personally, I frequently hear people say that I have put into words that which they could never have explained as well as I have.

I am afraid that my opinions are those of idiots, and I am the only literate one there is.

Being ripped off over the internet again. Paid for a custom computer on ebay 2 years ago, and it seemed pretty legit because the person had excellent feedback, and this guy was a 1000+ Power Seller. Sent the money via paypal since I noticed it had paypal buyer protection, and I paid about $750 for it. Seller never emailed me my tracker so when she did (Found out it was a lady later on), it was a dead one. Basically they'd given Fedex the number and whoever was making the computers (Some random dude was making them and then selling them under her name to split profits probably) never dropped off the computer. After the date it was supposed to arrive, I filed a complaint with ebay and paypal hoping to get my $750 back. Well I forgot to mention that I hadn't used ebay in a few years and didn't notice that even though it was "Paypal Protected" it was only protected for $200, so that was all I was able to recover. The next day I noticed that about 50 other poeple gave negatives and filed reports as well because they didn't get their computers either.

Every since then I've been leery of buying things off the net from certain places. I now make sure I check and double check feedbacks of people about websites I've never used. Since then however, I haven't bought anything else from ebay.

So people are sure to give them the proper pausing they require, and so I do not abuse ellipses (hi) like an American car abuses gasoline.

If you do not give yourself enough time to reflect on the sentences, you miss the entire point of reading Feba.

Not a personal fear (I'll try to keep that in mind for the next time I post), but Rule 24 says that this has to be somebody's fear somewhere:

This. Feba has become the voice for an entire group of people.

Honestly, probably the entire loss of privacy. Whether its googling yourself and being able to find way too much information, or that fact that its gotten much easier to get ahold of someone. I don't like it.

Yeah, pretty much everybody has myspace, facebook, or twitter so somebody can find you or if not they'll find a friend of yours and find you via the friend @_@. Kinda like my stalker from like the 10th or 11th grade.

If they can't find that they can just google your name. Hell, I googled my real name and I noticed that our work phone directory is published to the web where I work, and it has my name, position, and my desk phone number. If you google my username, you'll find just about every post I've made on forums in the past few years.

Furthermore I don't want my FFXI account stolen ever again, thanx security token.

I think my dad's biggest fear was that he'd have his credit card information stolen on the internet. Funny thing was he had never ordered anything online and his credit union got hacked so they had to send out new credit cards to all the members. It was not too long after that, he found out that the great majority of transactions are safe if you know what you're doing. So, now he usually has me check out websites for him before he buys stuff.

Loss of privacy is a rather big one for me too. Some years back, somebody decided to pretend to be me in various places and post contact info and a link to a picture, as well as misrepresenting me. For quite some time, I was worried about somebody trying to find me, and I DID receive a call due to that (and was the person on the other end ever embarrassed upon finding out that NO, I didn't post that).

                  Re: Your internet worst fear.

Nope, no fear for me it seems (can't think on anything.) But the internet did change my perspective on many things.

I can say I've saved a lot of money and prevented quite a few headackes by doing research of places I was interested in visiting, and then discovered it probably wasn't such a good idea thanks to the internet.

Loss of privacy isn't a concern of mine since most of the info there you have to upload it yourself, and I don't use Myspace and the like. On the other hand having information available (along with hundreds of references) a click away has really changed the way I learn things and it will only get better. Gotta love the exponentiallity of knowledge.

PS > Maybe regional limitations placed on the internet would be my worst nightmare. Specially if they prevented me from having access to knowledge base sites, Japanese websites and anime.

Now that I think about it. I was on a social networking website and I got a IM from some guy pretending to be a girl, it was pretty interesting to say the least. It was even funny when he told me "IM A DUDE!!! You just got punk'd" to which I replied "Actually you got punk'd, I figured it out within about 2 mins of talking to you. You also have the screenname "Prince" in your name instead of something like "Princess." You were also asking too many questions involving homosexual behavior." We'll just say he felt really dumb after that one and then he tried to make convo LOL, ended up on my block list.

The inevitable evils that will spew forth as time goes on from new technology.

Just you wait, assuming it's not out there already eventually some jack ass is going to post info on how to make a nuclear bomb. Though as I understand it, it's much more difficult to acquire the materials for one then it is to build.
