  • Feba needs your help to attack a mountain.

So I have a teeny problem. Recently, there were a lot of great game sales I couldn't pass up. Then I rediscovered the joy that is the library. So here is the problem:

To my right, I have a stack of books. There are ten books in the stack, and they are about a foot tall total. Additionally, I have two books on hold, and another book I didn't put on hold that I am planning on reading.

Additionally, I have around 15-20 hours of audiobooks I would like to listen to. On top of that, there is a single 33 hour audiobook at my library I intend to listen to someday for the lulz.

And then I have the games. Beyond Good and Evil, ZOE, ZOE2, DMC2, DMC3, and Gun. On top of those, I have Baroque and KHreCOM on hold at the library, and I would still like to try to complete Bit.Trip BEAT.

After all of that, there are more games I intend to buy, such as Majora's Mask, World of Goo, Secret of Mana, Super Mario World, Persona 4, MadWorld, etc. And of course there are upcoming releases I am interested in.

and while all of this is going on, my DVR is collecting shows I like to watch, which are usually hour long shows (Daily Show/Colbert Report, Monk, Top Gear, House), and DS/CR especially I prefer to watch within a day or two while they're still fresh.

So, guys, I need advice. I can listen to the audiobooks and watch TV while I exercise, which should save time, but books and games need my full attention. Should I just plow through all of the books, or should I switch off? Should I try to blast my way through the games (most of which should be pretty short), or should I keep them there for when the pile of words (WORDS OH MY GOD WORDS I AM UP TO MY KNEES IN WORDS) starts to drive me insane?

Most of the books are due back by the end of the month, but that's not terribly important as I can renew them three times, and do it online. I'm not sure how long the library will hold the games and books for me. I am pretty sure the games cannot be renewed, so they take precedence over the games I already own; but I do not want to stop BG&E in the middle to start Baroque-- how long is BG&E, abouts? And no, you cannot talk me out of playing, watching, or reading any of these; I have my reasons.

    halp.

Start off with the games that dont require too much time to beat. In between games, if you excercise, listen to the audio books since you cant really excercise while you play.........or can you.........anyways get the books and games that require renewals at the library out of the way first. That way you dont have to worry about not being able to renew them. The games and books that actually belong to you, well, those can wait a little more since they belong to you and arent really going anywhere.

Welcome to my world! There just aren't enough hours in the day to do all the shit I want to accomplish! I have to add in household stuff, volunteer work, and family activities on top of all that too. I wouldn't even know where to tell you to start but if you ever get it all figured out on how to balance the entire situation, PLEASE tell me so I can apply it to my own life! LOL

It might take more time, but spread it out and mix it up. Don't try reading every book back to back or playing every game beginning to end in a row. Its a surefire way to burn yourself out, keep you from finishing it, and making it that much harder to get back into it when you finally do get a little motivation to do it again. DEFINATELY don't read too much straight. Last Harry Potter book I awoke to the book on my doorstep, immediately started reading and didn't stop until I was done. It was a good book, but I had a migraine for the next day and a half. Reading some, then playing a game some lets your eyes switch back and forth between focusing on something right in front of your face and focusing on something 10 feet away. But, like hexx said, do the stuff first that can't be renewed at all. That way there's less to rush and you can pace yourself better.

Btw, when I first saw the thread title I thought for a split second you were gonna actually be summiting a mountain. My jaw contemplated hitting the floor for that microsecond.

switching between a book and a game for my eyes is a good idea; but I prefer to do things in chunks. When I play MGS, I almost always try to tackle the entire game in a single day (since it's 8-12 hours, that works out pretty well), and the series back to back.

I don't like to have stories interrupted, which is a big reason I've stopped watching fictional TV.

This can be a bit of the problem, but if it's a personal thing, I'm not sure what you can do about it. =/

Best advice I can give you is, go double-time: try to get through stuff faster than it can come at you. For example, watch two episodes of Daily Show/Colbert Report per day until those don't appear to be piling up any more. Read a book until your aforementioned words drive you insane, and then take the insanity out in a good fast-paced video game session. If you aren't looking forward to any one of the things you have to read/watch/listen to/play, you should probably just drop it all together, as if you aren't looking forward to it, aren't enjoying it, then you're only slowing yourself down by not getting to something you would prefer to do.

            Basic time allocation and priorities is really all my advice boils down to . . . but then, I can fail at those myself at times, too. v_v;

I would tackle the books first.

Raydeus, that is quite possibly the worst advice I have ever received on any subject.

Including advice which was intentionally bad.

You can read while exercising on an excersie bike, get a music stand and put the book on that. Also put a book in the bog, you will spend at least an hour a week in there
