So... Employee Appreciation is on April 28. Usually we have administrators get up and talk forever about each of the people being honored for their 5 year increments of service. I am on the team this year and we've had so many awesome ideas for entertainment that we're going to limit the speaking. This year we've limited each person to 3-5 mins and we have 8 people that need to be honored so we're hoping it'll take 40 mins or less. In the past we've had various forms of entertainment and most of them are people from the business office (<<My department lol) and there are very few from the other departments that participate.

So this year we decided to do something different with that since some of the party poopers don't like the entertainment. We are planning on having 3 Wii's setup. In one room we're going to have Wii Boxing, the other room will have Wii Bowling, and the one on the big screen in the room that we'll be having the celebration in will have Rock Band! We're also going to have Sumo Wrestling with the big padded suits, some Light Hula Dancing, a Bean Bag Throw, and also we're getting a group to come in and do massages. We're hoping that the Superintendent will let us wear Hawaiian shirts that day so we can be festive.

Either this'll be the most Epic Employee Appreciation ever....Or it'll be the last one ever lol . I came up with the name "Staycation to the Islands 'Mon". I've also got to get the Luau music and work on a map legend to go on the back of the program for the entertainment.

I would hope that people aren't too big "sticks in the mud" about something like that, it sounds like a lot of fun and a good way to relax with people you probably normally want to strangle. Might actually bring some of you closer together.

I used to hate "forced" fun days when I was in the Army, but they weren't that bad really and I do have some good memories of that stuff. And it did give me something to talk to my coworkers about. (OMG remember the time when Sharon ...) When normally I wouldn't have before.

I'd like to work there for that day! Let us know how it goes and if it's well-received.

You'd think people would want to kinda relax and have fun, but for the last few years its pretty much only my office that participates in the entertainment. Mostly all we do is lipsync songs and what not. A couple of years ago we had a country theme and I posted our performance in this thread: http://www.ffxionline.com/forums/gam...tml#post832013 from youtube. I had alot of fun doing it and most of the people there did too from what I remember. However, there were the select few that were on the committee the next year that said "We don't want any entertainment." So last year we just had one long boring ass program and then went back to work...

We Haz Rawk Banned! So that might be as close to Karaoke that we can get lol. We're planning on having frozen drinks and smoothies. We got a bunch of people in this health contest we got going on here so not too many would eat pizza. It'll be mostly light snacks, fruit, and drinks. Then we'll be entertained for an hour and go home.

We're gonna use DDR Music instead.

New Developments:

We're looking pretty good. We have a budget of $1200 and we should be able to pull it off since the majority of our entertainment is free. We're paying 2 hula girls to come in, hand out leis, and hula with the music to set the ambiance for the people coming in. We're getting 3 massage stations: 2 chairs and one bed. We weren't gonna get the Sumo Suits because they were gonna be $300 but they said they'd give us a discount since we're only gonna use them for 1 hour of $150. They'll drop them off and pick them up. We're getting Tropical Smoothies for the honorees and they also get special leis and straws.

We kinda hit a major pitfall as well. On Sunday, an article came out talking about the amount of Travel being racked up by the school districts in our county....of course we were 2nd on the list in the most spent category. So when I arrived at the meeting yesterday, they were discussing if whether we'd be able to justify everything if we get FOIA'd (Freedom of Information Act) by the media, or if we should run it all by the advisory committee (Teh Admins) before we do it. We decided that we weren't going to do that since its in 2 weeks and if they turn us down, we won't have anything. Plus we've already set everything into motion by making phone calls and contacts. Our biggest concern is if the Superintendent is gonna Aggro us and are our Admins gonna end up taking Aggro from him as well since they picked us.

Most of the decisions that have to do with certain things have to be run by the advisory council. We came up with the hawiian shirt idea earlier in the month, and for that to go through we have to get the advisory council to OK it. However, since they refuse to meet, if they don't meet next week, we have decided that we're gonna send out emails to the whole building telling everyone to wear their Hawaiian Shirts and Khaki pants on that Tuesday. In the words of the Communications & Development member of our group..."And after we send it out, just let "him" (The Superintendent) try to stop us! Not even he could retract that email." Is it just me or is this turning into "Operation Valkyrie"? I mean they did let us have the country theme 2 years ago and that didn't cause a problem.

Honestly, the best event you could set up would be "get the day off if you don't want to do this stuff".

Feba, You'd only come if No More Heroes was involved.

j/k but I agree, that'd get rid of many of the party poopers. I think the guys in the Tech department who are usually the biggest party poopers will probably be all over it this year. I mean, we had a building potluck last year and the tech guys said they weren't gonna come...DOOD YOU GET OUT OF WORK!!! WTF!!! Not like they were doing anything important anyways. Their supervisor told them all that they would all bring something and they would go to the program, she basically had to force them.

Ya, us geeks can be a solitary bunch. LOL I have a birthday dinner tomorrow and I'm already trying to think of ways to get out of it. LOL (All the women at one end and all the men at the other, with me in the men group. LOL Seriously boring.)

Well, the Superintendent finally approved the Hawiian Shirts/casual dress for Tuesday....I mean he could've let us know 2 days ago so we could've gotten the word out. Its funny because we have a 8 page newspaper that comes out every month that has information on our buildings in our district. For the past two months there has been information in the booklet about "Employee Appreciation Day" but apparently nobody reads it because they keep asking us committee members when it is. So since the idiot adminz slowed around, we are gonna have to send out the information today, otherwise it won't get out til next monday which is the day before the event.

DDR is fun, but Karaoke is just too good for bonding. Nothing like making yourself look like a fool while singing some japanese song no one understands to break the ice.

The big day was today, and man I am worn out just from putting up the decorations. You would be surprised with all the activities we had to do, how many people left and went back to work. We planned for 150 people to be there and there were maybe 70-85, many of them took food ane went back to their desks lol. There were actually quite a few people that participated in the sumo wrestling and plenty of people who got to watch it. I'd say maybe about 45-50 people actually participated in something, whether it be watching or actually doing something.
