  • Late Night with Sir Jim o.o/ my movie debut

I was bored tonight, so I made this at the Xtranormal beta site:

Episode Late Night with Sir Jim 1

Don't hate me if you want that minute of your life back, btw.

        Premise: funny
        Visuals: rough but not bad
        Dialogue: Needs editing.
-Jokes: Ok, but could be tightened up
        -Banter: Redundant, (see jokes)
-Noises: Timing's just slightly off in a few places, otherwise good

Yeah, run the dialogue edit one more time at least. You're repeating the same stuff over and over, sometimes even before you hit a punchline. It's almost like you worked out the visuals and had to stretch the dialogue line to fit them. The problem with that is that two men don't really take that long to have a conversation. Think about when you're on the phone with a guy friend, we're pretty efficient. This could probably be a really funny skit, but you need to shoot for closer to the 30-45 second mark instead of the full minute you have here. This feels a little... I dunno, is "rambley" a word? Not everyone likes fart jokes in the first place, but if you take too long to build up to them, the people who do forget to laugh. Solid idea, though.

Actually did the dialogue first and the angles and animations after. But yeah, perhaps Jim did ramble a bit. Some of the reaction shots on Jim were nice and not my intention at all, but after it was rendered I kept some of them.

They have a cap on how much text you can use and the animations seem to count toward that total by various amounts that aren't told in the flash menu.

I just threw that together in under an hour last night, I didn't even go in with a plan there. I'm terrible at naming characters and after I threw down "Steve Bob Davis" I knew the fart jokes were unavoidable.

I liked the program I used to make it, though, it was pretty easy to get around. Almost too easy, in fact. Can't wait to see where it goes once its out of beta, its a neat idea.

Well, as a first attempt it's not bad animation. I think you can probably tighten it up and make something decent out of it, or shoot for the moon and go straight for the next one.
