Maybe the electronics from the detonation equipment made it explode? Whenever you go into an area with high explosives like that you are required to turn your cell phone off. Hmm, makes you wonder. And I also find it funny that the conversation went from "Man killed by cell phone" to "I can't live with out my willy".
