Or worse yet, 'How much debt are you willing to put your family through to live? Kids, which would you rather have, decent living conditions, or a mother?'. It's abhorrent that this is still an issue.

That would be really freaking cool if it weren't life threatening.

You mean, like, in a jar? Because that would be freakin' awesome.

Hell, could you imagine having one of those on a mantle? If a visitor asks about it, you can either tell them about a horrible medical condition you had, and overcame; or you can tell them about this time you found an alien spaceship crashed in your backyard. Depending on your mood.

Even with insurance, my health issues are creating a financial stress on our family. My insurance does not pay for office calls and they are quite expensive and add up quickly. The insurance also doesn't pay for certain other things. It's also quite difficult to get some treatments done because I have to go through the insurance to see if they are going to be covered otherwise I end up paying for them EVEN if I've had them done before and the insurance paid for them. We are currently being sued for a $5000 procedure that I've had done several times but this one time I thought the doctors office had cleared it and they did not. My husband would rather avoid going to court or trying to figure something else out so he's started making payments.

No not in a jar. LOL They keep them in their bodies in case the transplant is rejected at some point. They figure even if their damaged kidneys don't work hardly at all, at least they work a little.

Fyi, I don't think they would give the kidneys to you though I don't know anyone thats asked. I've asked for kidney stones I've had removed and gotten them. LOL I even got the "spark plug" from a lithotrpsy machine that they used on me once. I've had numerous stents put in also and I was curious about them so they when they took one out of me once they gave it to me. I have a little bit of Feba in me, huh?

Someone needs to take this quote completely out of context and put it in their signature.

                    Re: A little fyi...

Generally, they don't let people keep organs or removed infected limbs. They used to, I mean there's still that Civil War soldier who used to visit his amputated leg in the Smithsonian, but generally no. It's just not particularly smart to send someone home with an item that could become infected. You can't really predict how careful or intelligent the people you're sending it home with are going to be. "Hey Ma! Come 'ere and look at this here liver what Jimmy brung! I'ma gonna poke it!"

You can sterilize stones, shunts, and metal parts. The rest of the stuff not so much. It's a pretty ugly potential liability to let people walk off with organs in jars.

Also, stop getting Grandmom hooked on Erfworld and Order of the Stick. She'll never mod if she spends time reading that archive.

I know you may not believe this, but I'll bet if you were to lose actual kidney function and go on Dialysis you would feel better day to day

When my dad finally had to go on dialysis he felt the effect right away and we all noticed how much better he was - He died of an unrelated infection, but was on dialysis for years and did real well on it.
