Re: PETA rebrands fish... now in "sea kitten" flavor!
I realize that this PETA thing is funny, but I also consider it to be incredibly irresponsible to promote a lifestyle that has been statistically proven unviable in large segments of the human population. PETA kills children by suggesting to people that the protein source that is the most good for them is either evil or laden with poisons. Children, in fact, are the most susceptible to problems arising from improper vegan diets since they are still growing and need lots of good building materials to make their bodies.
Personally, I don't give a shit if a whole bunch of whiny neo-pagan hippies commit suicide by eating only tofu as long as they don't force their suicidal diet onto other people (read: their kids).
Also, on the topic of soy products: Tofu is very good for girls over 40 and fine for women in general, but it's only ok for guys who should consume it only in moderation because of the high levels of phytoestrogen. Soy products such as tofu should only be consumed in smaller amounts by men and especially young boys because it alters their hormonal balance and can lead to decreased fertility. It has health benefits for everyone but it shouldn't be used as a primary protein source. Apparently, one study shows that although, in general, consumption of isoflavones protects against breast cancer that in certain populations of women who are prone to breast cancer that it actually promotes the growth of tumors.
I like tofu in miso soup, mapu tofu, and in fried rice. I really don't use it for much else.
I think PETA is an incredibly irresponsible non-profit organization and I believe strongly that the world would be a much better place if they ceased to exist.
That being said, I'm all for treating animals humanely even if they are being used for food and I find their campaign against the eating of the world's healthiest animal product to be ridiculous to the point where I almost needed a garter belt to prevent my sides from bursting open when I first saw it.
