Panasonic Unveils First Portable Blu-ray Player - PC World

All I have to say is, I don't even wanna know how much a portable blu-ray machine costs.

To start out, insanely priced I imagine. I bought a blu ray player for $100 for my computer and I've seen stand alone units for $169-199. Eventually the portables should make it down to at least the price of a stand alone unit but probably not for at least 2-3 years after release.

Hands on with Nvidia's 3D Vision Goggles - PC World Awesome! 3D Glasses can be used with video games. I wonder what Crysis would look like in IMAX 3-D. If they were the Red and Blue kind, they'd probably annoy my eyes. I tried to watch Journey to the Center of the Earth in 3D on my 42inch tv, and about halfway through my eyes hurt lol.

The portable BluRay player seems kind of pointless. I don't even think it is possible to notice the difference between SD and HD on an 8.9" screen.
The only thing I could see is if you have BluRays sitting around already that you want to watch on the go.

3-D glasses might be kind of cool, though.

Alas they only work with 100+Hz crt's and a couple 120Hz tv's. I'd love to have a 120Hz LCD. I compared side by side my current 52" LCD with the same brand 52" with 120Hz and the difference was remarkable. The picture is so crisp, smooth, and sharp. I really didn't think it was that big of a difference until I saw it with my own eyes. (FYI my tv is a Sharp Aquos so not some weird ass garbage.)

Speaking of CES, has anyone downloaded Windows 7 beta?

From the stuff I've been reading it looks like it will finally make it worth the switch from XP (lolVista). But I've only found pretty superficial info abut it.

Well I know my son will get it eventually.........or already has it. He beta's a lot of MS stuff. He works 3rd shift and isn't completely awake or I'd ask him about it right now.

Microsoft Apologizes, Adds Unlimited Win7 Beta - News and Analysis by PC Magazine looks like M$ put a ban on it since there were so many downloads, but has now uncapped it with unlimited downloads for the next two weeks.

For the 3d stuff, they had a working demonstration on a few games at the local Fry's Electronic store I went to.

They showed off a few games, one of them was WoW in 3d, all the UI stuff sorta floats off the screen and the mob and you look like 3d. Some terrain was in 3d as well. There was some other things that they showed but I saw the demo fairly quickly and my friends wanted to move on to other stuff.

It looks like they're really trying to make this 3-d stuff stick. I always figured it to be a niche product, but that may change soon. Samsung is due to have a 3-d display out by the end of the year, with most other companies following early in '10

I still can't understand why they don't just use 3D LCD glasses, instead of futzing with having a separate monitor display 3D, and then use special glasses that interface with that TV and blah blah blah bullshit. Not that that's going to look good from more than a narrow range (read: one person looking at a time) anyway. It also completely ruins the impact of things like FPS gaming.

And then you have things like headtracking, which are cool workarounds, but completely unusable for more than one person; whereas with the screen mounted fractions of inches in front of the user's face, you could have an infinite amount of users with life like 3D (not speaking in terms of quality, but just appearance)

I'm more interested in the image-discriminating properties of 3D displays.

Like that about having a single display showing 2 (or more) different video signals at the same time, with glasses tunned for each one of the "channels". As a solution for limited space/budget applications.



PS Edit > Of course transparent HUD glasses with HD audio capabilities would be preferred above everything else. (Go watch Denno Coil)

But that's kinda asking too much. <_<;
