    Impressive
Not as impressive as Senator Ted Stevens possibly winning re-election in Alaska after being convicted of 7 felony counts of corruption...

So the president needs electoral votes to win or claim victory.

so since victory is defined by the electoral votes then I suppose this holds true

"(this thread is in preperation for the landslide obama victory later today)"

349-163 I would say more than double is a landslide.

For me this election sums up to something small, I have a bit of my pride back. We'll see what happens down the road but for now I'll take that bit of extra spring in my step and enjoy it thank you very much!

                  Re: Congrats Barack Obama

I figured as much. Still, I know my dad voted for him because he was black and my mom just drank some serious Obama Kool aid with the government check added in. I would have not had a problem voting for a black/half black person, if they weren't so far left.

We'll see how he does. He created some serious expectations for himself. I will give his campaign credit that they did a good job running him as a centrist. That and almost having no scrutiny from most of the media.

                    Re: Congrats Barack Obama

                    Highlights: Newsweek's Special Election Project | Newsweek Politics: Campaign 2008 | Newsweek.com

                    Interesting.

Palin also used low-level staffers to buy some of the clothes on their credit cards. The McCain campaign found out last week when the aides sought reimbursement. One aide estimated that she spent "tens of thousands" more than the reported $150,000, and that $20,000 to $40,000 went to buy clothes for her husband. Some articles of clothing have apparently been lost. An angry aide characterized the shopping spree as "Wasilla hillbillies looting Neiman Marcus from coast to coast," and said the truth will eventually come out when the Republican Party audits its books.
McCain himself rarely spoke to Palin during the campaign, and aides kept him in the dark about the details of her spending on clothes because they were sure he would be offended. Palin asked to speak along with McCain at his Arizona concession speech Tuesday night, but campaign strategist Steve Schmidt vetoed the request.
On the Sunday night before the last debate, McCain's core group of advisers—Steve Schmidt, Rick Davis, adman Fred Davis, strategist Greg Strimple, pollster Bill McInturff and strategy director Sarah Simmons—met to decide whether to tell McCain that the race was effectively over, that he no longer had a chance to win. The consensus in the room was no, not yet, not while he still had "a pulse."
Palin launched her attack on Obama's association with William Ayers, the former Weather Underground bomber, before the campaign had finalized a plan to raise the issue. McCain's advisers were working on a strategy that they hoped to unveil the following week, but McCain had not signed off on it, and top adviser Mark Salter was resisting.
Obama was never inclined to choose Sen. Hillary Clinton as his running mate, not so much because she had been his sometime bitter rival on the campaign trail, but because of her husband. Still, as Hillary's name came up in veep discussions, and Obama's advisers gave all the reasons why she should be kept off the ticket, Obama would stop and ask, "Are we sure?" He needed to be convinced one more time that the Clintons would do more harm than good. McCain, on the other hand, was relieved to face Sen. Joe Biden as the veep choice, and not Hillary Clinton, whom the McCain camp had truly feared.
On the night she officially lost the Democratic nomination, Hillary Clinton enjoyed a long and friendly phone conversation with McCain. Clinton was actually on better terms with McCain than she was with Obama. Clinton and McCain had downed shots together on Senate junkets; they regarded each other as grizzled veterans of the political wars and shared a certain disdain for Obama as flashy and callow.
At the GOP convention in St. Paul, Palin was completely unfazed by the boys' club fraternity she had just joined. One night, Steve Schmidt and Mark Salter went to her hotel room to brief her. After a minute, Palin sailed into the room wearing nothing but a towel, with another on her wet hair. She told them to chat with her laconic husband, Todd. "I'll be just a minute," she said.
                    And for comic relief:
The debates unnerved both candidates. When he was preparing for them during the Democratic primaries, Obama was recorded saying, "I don't consider this to be a good format for me, which makes me more cautious. I often find myself trapped by the questions and thinking to myself, 'You know, this is a stupid question, but let me … answer it.' So when Brian Williams is asking me about what's a personal thing that you've done [that's green], and I say, you know, 'Well, I planted a bunch of trees.' And he says, 'I'm talking about personal.' What I'm thinking in my head is, 'Well, the truth is, Brian, we can't solve global warming because I f---ing changed light bulbs in my house. It's because of something collective'."

TGM: Since you expressed how it feels to you, Id like to tell you how it feels to me.

As a Canadian, I know I do not share the same ideals or even patriotism as you. But I do hold great respect for my neighboring citizens to the south. Over the last 8 years we have watched up here as your folks lost more and more rights year by year, your economy fell under the weight of wars etc etc...

But the worst part was that over the last 8 years, the American dream disappeared. But to me what this election really means, what this election has deep down inside it. The American Dream is Alive and as Strong as ever. Im 23 TGM and my mom called me crying because she could not believe a Black Man won in her lifetime. 40 years after MLK a Black man is the president of the USA. To me that is a feeling of empowerment, it is a feeling of freedom.

And I am not even from your country. But the symbol it show to the world. The statue of liberty shines bright again, because in America, you can be whatever you want to be, if you put your mind to it. And that is freedom.

I agree Mageo. I feel a weight lifted from my shoulders. I feel as if I can breathe easier. This may be temporary and I might wake up 2 years from now feeling like I did just 2 days ago but I certainly hope not. We've made some mistakes and I hope we've learned from them and can now move on. Let's start cleaning up.

You are probably one of those that think there were only two candidates, huh?

It says on that article "don't vote" (unless I misread it?) if you don't like either of the candidates. But if you take ALL parties in consideration you may just find one you agree much more with.

Its too bad the media doesn't cover other parties...
