You called for a landslide when a vote hadn't been counted yet. Seeing how disproportionate the electoral college really is, you can't call a trainwreck a "landslide."

And the Electoral College is a trainwreck regardless of which party's candidate gets into office. Its one of many parts of our electoral process that is still in dire need of fixing. Republians and Democrats will never say a peep about it since it works to thier advantage, though.

The government doesn't get things back on track. People, businesses, families, communities, churches, charities do. The most the government can do is get out of the way. The wealth or success of a society is not based on government action. We do not live in an enlightened age with an enlightened economic system and an enlightened government. We have the same damn problems societies have always had, especially societies suffering under expanding governments.

Marcus Tullius Cicero, in freakin BCE time, said: "The budget should be balanced. Public debt should be reduced. The arrogance of officialdom should be tempered, and assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed, lest Rome become bankrupt." We are going bankrupt, and more spending, even if Obama totally promises it'll only be good spending to help Annie get her meds and Mark to keep his job, is only going to make it worse.

In a similar vein (and in response to the rude-as-hell anti-Palin comments that thrive around here), I recommend this article. It's a nice little read that will hopefully provide some food for thought.

        My pre-election prediction was 367-171.

Right now, looking at the remaining uncalled states, it looks like McCain will hang on to Missouri and Montana. Looking at the election returns, it looks like Obama will win Indiana and North Carolina.

If those predictions hold true, the EV totals would be 364-174.

Again assuming those are the final results, my only missed calls were Indiana, Missouri, and Montana. I thought Obama would get either North Dakota or Montana, and I thought he'd get Missouri but not Indiana.

What a great Birthday present (birthday was the 4th, not 5th), and to see my hick of a state (Indiana) at 50% Obama 49% McCain is something I truly never thought I'd ever see.

The networks just called your home state of Indiana for Obama. Happy birthday!

I know Pennsylvania is a blue state, but I'm amazed Murtha still got reelected. Apparently you can call your constituents racists and rednecks and still get elected.

                    Maybe they're proud of it?

Anyway, I'm still kinda jittery. Part of that is that I slept for like four hours, and I've tried and failed to fall back asleep.

I feel kinda odd and on edge, I'm not sure if it's because it just hasn't sunk in yet, or because I really don't believe it.

Anyone else think that McCain's concession speech was the best speech he gave in his entire campaign? Might be because he actually believed what he was saying, as opposed to what he was told to say ('Socialist!' and so on).

                      Re: Congrats Barack Obama

I hear the lack of sleep Feba, I stayed up well beyond my bedtime, work is going to suck this morning. But I had to listen to Obama give his acceptance, not because I wanted to hear him, I just wanted to be able to say "ya I saw when that nice young black man got shot for the color of his skin" when I am an old man. But thankfully that did not happen. Nice work on the glass which I can only assume was bullet proof surrounding the podium the DNC was ready for anything it seems. I just hope they have a pope mobile he can roll around in, to many whack jobs and fuck tards in the world today. Although did you see the interview with the admited KKK sect leader. He said he hates black people, but he can't not vote for Obama because he has over 400K in the stock market and can't afford to vote for a republican again. I lol'd at that.

I feel sorry for McCain, but that is what happens when you sell your principles out for a chance to run for president. I wonder how different it would have been if he didn't. Of course if he didn't "align" his views with the GOP he probably would have been watching Romney bow out in October.

This is pretty much how I feel about it, too, minus the birthday factor. Happy birthday!

It was the first time in a long time I actually felt like he was telling me the whole truth and not the "real" truth with propaganda and fear tactics sprinkled in like it was Coldstone ice cream or something.

Too bad it was his last speech and at the end of the presidential race.
